Santa's going to be shot down, clearly.

I really, really hope so. That would be the only good thing to come out of this appalling situation.

As far as I am aware the 25th of December is going to be happening no matter what. Not even COVID 19 is able to take days away Confused

Hopefully it might concentrate people's minds on a simpler, closer Christmas with less consumerism, but judging by the fact that people are literally willing to shit on the beach rather than stay at home, i doubt it.

Different, maybe, but not cancelled. We may not get to visit family (requires several hours on different buses and trains) but we'll still celebrate.

Can you imagine the supermarkets if we're still having to socially distance?

No way I’ve all ready asked dh can we have advent candles at home he’s said yes, carols played presents as normal for in-laws, they have tokens then little presents, sent to them, us I think pick what we want.

Don’t be so dramatic.

Hopefully it will help people feel able to scale back and focus on the more important aspects if that’s what they want to do.

Christ, are people really shitting on beaches?

The Christian event cannot be cancelled by anybody.

Were Easter or Ramadan cancelled in the middle of lockdown? No, and neither will Christmas.
It may be a different Christmas to other years, with less mass gatherings and Christmas markets are already considering whether they can go ahead, but cancelled?
No, it won't be.

Maybe, Santa might be shielding.

Most people hate Christmas. People on mumsnet start suffering in anticipation in August. Surely no one is hypocritical enough to also pretend to be devastated. I'm not fooled. I've read all the anti Christmas threads. Well not all. There are too many...

As far as I’m concerned if we can’t spend time with the DC’s grandparents then it doesn’t really count as Christmas. Twice over the last twenty years my DPILs have been unable to join us for Christmas dinner due to illness and both times we’ve saved the crackers and pudding and got in a huge turkey to do the whole nine yards when they could join us in February half term.

Well Christmas itself cannot be cancelled, but there will be a few spanners in the works.

Santa is almost certainly a type 2 diabetic and will be shielding. So there go the presents.

Churches will have to live stream their services without a congregation, so no singing.

The Queen probably wont bother with an address because nobody will want to watch her sat in front of a gold piano when they've all lost their jobs.

The work Christmas do will be cancelled to prevent mass gatherings.

Mistletoe will be discouraged because theres no better way to spread covid than kissing strangers.

There is no way most people will be able to get a delivery slot for christmas. Can you even imagine. So cheesy pasta all round on that front.

On the bright side, there will be plenty of old loo rolls for Christmas crafts, and elderly relatives will still be shielding at home so no pick ups or having to talk about the war.

So we will have a Christmas, it will just be a bit different to our normal one.

Of course it will go ahead. Only on mumsnet have I seen hysterical predictions of no normality till the year 3000
