Barbie

4 year old daughter has announced that she wants a Barbie doll for Christmas. I was never really a Barbie girl when I was younger. Where do I start? Anywhere that does particularly good deals on anything? I had a look and there were dolls, vehicles, furniture, dolls that looked like small Barbies. I thought the point of Barbie was to have one doll and lots of outfits, but didn't see any clothes.

Any recommendations on how to start a little collection without breaking the bank?

All the basic Barbie dolls are about the same price. They just have different outfits 'fashionistas' or careers. Just choose whichever you think she'd like. Princess, mermaid, vet, astronaut etc.

They also do a couple of different wardrobes, which make a handy carry case:

If she just wants outfits that's all you need. She might want to act out stories, in which case you might need some other dolls such as ken to play the different parts.

Build up the collection with whichever bits she likes with the dreamhouse being the BEST THING EVER.

I had this problem - get any Barbie, and look on amazon, you can get packs of dresses on there. They aren’t high quality but my dd has had lots of fun with them for 5 years. You can get lots of accessories like jewellery and Barbie bags on amazon too.

The other thing you can do is get loose fabric squares and tie them with belts.

You can buy outfits separately. Dd had a few dolls and outfits and a wardrobe thing to keep them in

N.B. Chelsea and Skipper are Barbie's younger sisters.

Also, from my username you may think I'm obsessed with Barbie!!!! I'm actually not. I was just watching toy story 3 when I chose it.

I had barbie and skipper. I used to go to a local toy shop to buy outfits but it no longer exists (I am old!)

DD loves her Barbies, plays with them for hours. They're often on sale at Smyths or Argos and some supermarkets so you can pick them up quite cheap. It's worth shopping around. Last Christmas we got her a set from Smyths with a Bride, Groom and two little bridesmaids, my DP's bought her a Barbie car and we found a set of different Barbie clothes (I think it was on Amazon). She was overjoyed!

She has a Doctor Barbie that she plays with a lot so this year I've bought her the Barbie Ambulance.

Might be worth trying Tesco, Argos or B&M. The last couple of years they've had good offers - Barbie and ice-cream kiosk playset or Barbie and car set...that kind of thing - which has made them a bit cheaper than Smyths or Amazon. Pretty sure I saw good Barbie sets in B&M recently.

I'd go for a reduced price bigger set (about £20) and maybe a smaller set that has a doll and an outfit (can sometimes be picked up for less than a tenner).

Actually just re- read and realised your daughter was 4. I might actually be inclined to get one playset with doll to see how she likes it.

You can always pick bits up as you go along if she likes it.

I hope she does - I loved it. Still do. Blush

My daughter quite likes Barbie she's 6 & goes back & fourth playing with them.
I would get maybe a set that's comes with Barbie & maybe little sisters or babies? Amazon has lots of stuff!

Get a jointed Made To Move Barbie rather than a cheap crap one with a permanently bent arm. They can do so much more with the jointed ones. Barbie houses and all the plastic tat is just that; extorionate plastic tat, though the aeroplane and camper van aren't too awful if bought on offer.

Gdd is 4 and plays endlessly with her Barbies, but she plays with baby dolls too.
Dd found a massive bargain Barbie house in VGC for her birthday - came with masses of Barbie stuff thrown in, all for the price of just one of the accessories new. Dd finds all such things on FB marketplace or Gumtree etc. so well worth a look - saves a fortune.
Gdd didn't know or care that it wasn't brand new.
Funnily enough dd was never into any sort of dolls at all, so it's not been a case of her encouraging or steering Gdd in that direction.

If anyone's little one is a fan of beauty and the beast they had a belle doll for £5 in Poundland. Based on the live action movie. Proper Disney doll from what I saw x
