We have two Christmas trees, one with 'tasteful' silver and white decs in the dining room and a colourful one in the sitting room. I know coloured lights are not fashionable but we have always had them in this tree

Because the tree is tall, 8Ft, it needs plenty of lights and though previously we have used several strings, last year I bought a long 1000 bulb version.

When it was up and the tree decorated, I hated it as the bulbs were so bright. Kind DH offered to take them off but that would have disrupted much of the stuff on the tree, so I spent Christmas poking as many bulbs as I could into the depths of the branches.

The photos show trees with old and new lights. The new ones don't even photo well.

Can anyone please recommend coloured lights, 1000 -1500 ideally not the cluster ones, which are not glaringly bright and cost less than £30?

Op, of no help to you I just wanted to commiserate on how awful these bright lights are! The whole point of Xmas lights is soft, glowing lights.
Some of the new led are strip lights condensed into fairy lights with the harsh glow.

We have warm led lights from Argos. They are individually quite small so not overpowering.

I had 480 for a 7ft tree last year and am adding another 160 this year.

For an 8ft tree I'd personally be looking at adding no more than 800 if you don't want it to be overpowering.

Thank you, GenQuest, I am glad it is not just me.

Ritz, are yours warm and coloured or warm white?

I have found home bargains good for lights. Got some last year and more in my car for this year. I usually go for the warm tone.

Your tree is gorgeous.

Linentowel, sadly no Home Bargains anywhere near us, just B&M , but I will check out their lights. Thanks for kind remark re. Tree, we had real ones for years but two years ago we were going abroad for two weeks over Christmas so bought this ''Woodland Pine'" from Christmas Tree World and have been delighted with it, incredibly realistic.

First. Led lights are awful. 2nd that's way too many lights.
You can get old fashioned style coloured lights with proper bulbs on Amazon or eBay. The bulbs are larger and softer. You shouldn't need more than 3 - 400 at most.
And yes. Your tree looks fab

Mine are warm white but they do coloured led ones in their range, exactly the same size (subtle)
