Am feeling stumped this year - driving lessons are sorted, he has no interest in clothes - they are just functional items to him! Don't want to give him money as he has a Saturday job and just squirrels it away rather than spends it. Am looking for ideas big and small. Am hoping you will have some fabulous ideas!

Mine not quite 17 yet but he's getting good headphones and cinema vouchers. He also likes geeky board games so I'm looking into that.

A gaming chair if he's into playstation or Xbox?
Mine wants new furniture for his room - he has plenty of money for clothes etc so it was hard to find something he wants but wouldn't buy himself.

Also thinking of a smart watch for one ds and Costa vouchers as a stocking filler.

Memay- my Ds (17) has recently mentioned a game called Coup if that helps?

memaymamo · 16/10/2019 10:22

@iknowimcoming yes! My DS has played it at school, good tip I'll look it up.

He's growing out of that got to be connected to his xbox all the time phase so am reluctant to buy him something that will attach him to it again! He's just bought himself some AirPods with money he's saved from his Saturday job. Keep going am hopeful someone will hit the spot with their out of the ordinary ideas - thanks!

A block booking of Personal Trainer sessions?

Ds loved his and it really kicked started him being fitter, healthier and got him away from the ps4 for a bit. He still does them now along with a few gym/circuit training sessions a week..

DS is 17 this month and on an apprenticeship which he cycles to and from 4 days a week so we bought him a new mountain bike and reflective coat etc. He isn't one for fancy presents or a fuss. Will be getting a giftcard for meal out so him and his gf can have a treat in the near by city on a day out. Ex H is getting him driving lessons.

Tricky age!

We gave ds a suit, good for prom and for future interviews/uni.

My ds is nearly 16, he is having a new tablet & books about his special interest trains.

Probably an Apple Watch, got him Game of Phones game for when his friends come over, probably some new trainers, coat etc

Just bought Game of Phones - thanks for that - sounds promising! He bought himself an Apple Watch with his job earnings. It's so hard when they get a bit independent but you still need to treat them the same as their younger siblings...

Probably a contribution to a new laptop.
Some clothes.
Some books relevant to subject he hopes to study at Uni.
For his stocking: items to aid revision (index cards, highlighter pens with Post-it notes attached etc), gift card for Nando's or similar, socks, choc orange, accessories for the sports he does.

Nightmare Before Christmas Vans
Funko Pop figures (Batman and Robin 'Movie Moments', most likely another of the 80th anniversary Batman ones as well)
Keeping an eye on the price of the 80th anniversary Batman dvd set

I do realise these ideas are not helpful unless you also have a Batman fan DS Grin

MIL has got him a Tile tracker and a charging station for his phone, watch, and earpods.

Oh, we're getting him some cufflinks as well!

Is he into football? Ds got tickets to a Liverpool match last year with a hotel stay (his dad, who is also a Liverpool fan, went too).

DS loves clothes so that helps.

Ralph Lauren aftershave
Cinema pass
Friends Lego set
Levis
Trainers
Polo

DS about to turn 15 but things that went down well previously were:

  • basketball hoop
  • Ralph Lauren aftershave

-Guiness book of Records (tradition)
  • Voucher for Nandos/Greggs/Cinema
  • baseball cap
  • Google home thing (dot?)
  • Crep protect (fancy shoe cleaning/protecting stuff for trainers)
  • candy kittens sweets
  • books
  • scratch off 100 must see movie posters
  • some classic DVDs e.g. godfather, shawshank etc with bag of popcorn
  • hair stuff
  • face cleaning pads
  • nice socks (TK Maxx good)
  • some sort of tech e.g. charger boost for phone, headphones, cheap memory stick
  • clothes
  • books- usually ask advice of local book shop for a couple of good ones.
  • 'adult' board game e.g. ticket to ride, Catan, pandemic etc which we'll play with him
  • daft toy e.g. wooden/ metal brain tease puzzle, nano blocks etc
  • couple of daft practical jokes in his stocking to use on friends e.g. spicy chewing gum, black face soap, fake parking fine.
  • pjs (this year some Dragonball ones from primarc)
  • charity donation in his name (Oxfam do funny ones e.g. for a toilet)
  • lip balm
  • travel size deodorant/gel etc so he can put in school bag.

This year he wants strip lights for his bedroom and a skateboard.

For his bday he got season for his football team (only £80 in family stand, organised so his best mate got one too).

Mine is 17.. he will be getting an 'experience' as like yours he has his own money and doesn't really need anything. In the past he has fed meerkats, driven a tank and this time will be going up flying in a Tiger Moth.
