Since no one has started it yet, I thought I would.

Happy Rudolph Day

So come on, show us yours!

Here's the poncetastic description, if you're new. I believe credited to Fellatio Nelson.

OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom. A bit like the war in Afghanistan, only with nicer food and sparkly shoes.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobsworth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapes and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessies' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

I've been doing a cross stitch already. This is going to my in-laws' house!

It's poncetastic 2019!

Hooray! I have fruit soaking in brandy for a Christmas cake. I have already made my homemade mince meat smug

I made my mincemeat a fair while ago. Two types.

I've done little puddings too...how often do I feed them?!

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/09/2019 19:06

Move over on the smug bench living. I also have fruit soaking for my cakes and my puddings. Only DH likes Christmas pudding so I'll make 2 small ones for him for Christmas Day and Boxing Day and make either a Yule Log or a chocolate chestnut torte for the rest of us.

Report
TheWoollybacksWife · 25/09/2019 19:08

I've never fed my puddings Fluffy and DH has never complained in my hearing but I do use the leftover soaked fruit from the Christmas cake so they are fairly moist.

I might not bother then! These were a fairly wet mix, so maybe they'll be fine. And one is for DS, so I'd prefer not to add more alcohol!

What's next on the early prep list then? I thought I might make candied orange & lemon. My DH very dear grannie used to make them but is sadly no longer with us. Pressure!

@NoWordForFluffy your cross stitch is lovely. I used to do a lot, mostly on fine linen, but my eyes aren’t up to it anymore! I’m having enough issues crocheting!

I might get kicked off this thread. I’m whinging about all the ‘Book You Christmas Party with us’ signs, so I'm
probably not welcome! I was just hoping to be inspired!!

moist snigger Grin

I always start with good intentions, but they fizzle out when real life starts to get in the way looking at you, fabric Advent calendar I started embroidering for now 4yo DS!

I have bits crocheted for a wreath a-la attic24, but haven't yarn-wrapped the wreath.

Nobody we get presents for eats chutneys/jams/Christmas cake/fancy liqueurs, so no homemade edible presents.

I have started crocheting a 'paper chain' tonight, so let's see how long that lasts...

Very disciplined Firefly! I admire you for sewing it up as you go. I'd make all the bits and then have it sitting in a bag taunting me. I've made a couple of nativities this year and had to steel myself to construct as I go. I make and finish the first figure and then dread finishing the next one because I know how much sewing is involved.

I'm "making" wrapping paper today. Well, the dc are. They've got a Christmas stamper they are putting on paper.

How about the Booths christmas tasting evening? I went last year and it was glorious. Anyone know dates for it?

I'm doing all presents in brown paper with proper fabric ribbons this year. Eco friendly plus matchy matchy :)

I've found my people, current plans are to make some mini cross stitches for home made Christmas cards and to make some stockings to hang on the fire place as we have an actual stone fire place for a log fire this year and I plan to make the most of it (despite being in the southern hemisphere where it'll likely be 30+ degrees). If anybody has good patterns for either please do share 🙂

I’ve never heard of Booths before so I googled last years catalogue and am now salivating! Is it as nice as it looks?
