I had a small piece of stilton (still not keen on it!), Brie, and wensleydale with cranberries. Plus cheddar and red leicester already in the fridge.

It's not very exciting though so I'd like some suggestions for something new to try next Christmas, please Xmas Smile

Mmmm, cheese. Nice Cheddar, a good Brie or Camembert, Gruyere or Comté. Fourme d’Ambert for the blue. And a Romanian cheese called Brânza de Burduf (try a local Eastern European supermarket).

Coolea (Irish hard)
Stitchelon (bit like Stilton)
Durrus (soft cheese but not too stinky)
Hafod (Welsh hard)
Innes Log/ Burr (both goats cheese)
DH then had to drag me out of Neals Yard as I fucking love cheese. I do just get tiny bits of each mind, rather than big amounts, that way I get to try more.
Grin

Thank you all, I'll take a trip to the market and see what's to be had there too.

@Smallinthesmoke, that's what I'll do I think; small pieces to try, rather than big chunks we might not eat.

DD is a bit of a philistine and doesn’t like ‘soft or mouldy’ cheese so I’ve just bought some Snowdonia Redstorm and Applewood smoked to add to the Stilton, Gorgonzola, Cambozola and Gruyere reserve. Xmas Smile

We got a Christmas cheese "cake" made up of Godminster cheddar, yarg, Cricket St Thomas Camembert, Snowdonia Red Devil (a bit gimmicky so not what I would've chosen myself, but obviously they wanted the red wax for aesthetics), Rosary (soft goats cheese) and Vulscombe (another soft goats cheese, with herbs).

Edam !!! Don't forget the edam.

Report

@HelenaJustina is white stilton different to the stuff you usually get taste-wise? I've never heard of it.

I did forget alllll about the Edam @TopBitchoftheWitches :(

I have a good selection of accompaniments, although the girls ate most of the grapes before I got to them Xmas Hmm. Didn't think of paté though, I'm quite partial to paté on cold toast Xmas Blush

We had:
Extra Mature cheddar (not bought specially)
White stilton (it's really good lucysmam, better without any additions imo, a good one is quite smooth and creamy rather than crumbly)
Blue stilton
Ravens oak goat's brie (and I agree with a pp that it was delicious)
Roule with garlic and herbs
Wensleydale with cranberries (which I made MIL take home as I can't stand fruit in cheese!)

Ideally, I would have had a normal brie on there too or at least some kind of squidgy French cheese but I messed up the online order!

I LOVE epoisses, but the old man won't let me have it in the fridge!

@lucysmam it’s much creamier, smoother than blue. I’m not a blue cheese fan but love white stilton. Someone gifted us the one we had otherwise I would have bought plain.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 29/12/2018 19:11

We had:-

Brie, Cheddar, Red Leicester, Goat's cheese, Blue Stilton and Lancashire/Wensleydale plus philly.

We always go for a mix of strong/mild, hard and soft cheeses with a range of textures and one or two with herbs/fruit/garlic or smoked.

We tend to have edam, bavarian smoked, cheese strings! and baby bells if we have more children present.
