What do you eat New Years Day?

I always cook another roast, so basically Christmas dinner again which is lovely but so much work. This year with going back to work on the 2nd I don't want all the leftovers and the work in my tiny kitchen on New Year's Day.

I want it to feel special without loads of effort. What do you eat? I'm veggie but can adapt most things. I'm even thinking about an Indian takeaway but worried it won't feel very special when it gets to it.

What do you cook/eat?

Judging by the content of our fridge, it'll be cheese, cheese and more cheese!

Could you make it feel more special by setting the table, lighting candles, etc?

This year we’re doing a seafood stew with a good loaf of bread and some wine to go with it. That obviously won’t work for you, being veggie, but I think the idea you had for a takeaway curry would be just fine. If you want it to feel special I would set the table nicely and have candles etc so that it still feels like an occasion.

Usually fish after a meat heavy Christmas. This year it's cod loin with chips and peas.

Steak pie this year, but it changes.
Usually it's a meal that's a bit more effort than normal but not Christmas day effort... If that makes sense.

Soup, bread, cheese, salad, same as any other weekend or bank holiday lunch. Christmas Day is the only day of the year that we have a cooked meal i the middke of the day. Evening will be lasagne or similar.

Nibbles. Get people over for games and eat nibbles. Lots of nibbles. Did I mention nibbles?

We have a cheese and pate mountain so that's going to feature every day. I might make a turkey curry. I've portioned up and frozen the turkey so can just chuck some in.

Not decided yet, but we never do another roast. Nobody feels like it!

If we don’t eat out, I usually do a one pot fish - curry, stew, lasagne etc - and a nice pud and some champagne.

Yorkshire puddings
Cauliflower cheese

Thanks for all the ideas, I love hearing what other people are eating!

I think I'm going to go for a homemade macaroni cheese and homemade really strong garlic bread. Yum. I have a ton of cheese we haven't eaten and it's not something I'd usually make as it's so decadent. I'm looking forward to it now.
