Yankee candle advent calendar

I see that Yankee calendar have announced their 2018 advent calendar 😁 I've never bought one before, as it feels way too indulgent- I always look at them, but I am really tempted to treat myself to one this year.

Has anyone had one in the past, are they good? Please tell me they are 😁 Do they include lots of different smells (so a good way to try out different ones), or are they just a few of the same smells repeated?

Basically, I'm looking for someone to tell me to go ahead and treat myself to one!

Yankee candle, not Yankee calendar

2 years ago it was the same 5 or 6 rotated round. I enjoyed it but never managed to use them all! Saved half to put in an advent calendar I made myself the next year!

I have had them the last couple of years, usually there are 4 different scents spread over the 24 days with a large votive on day 24 (the rest are tea lights dependent on the calendar you get). I liked it and start December burning my tea light every night, then i get to the busy part of December and end up with leftovers in the cupboard!!

Yes I've had ax couple and they've been a few of the same repeated. Do like them though

I got one last year, was 4 scents repeated. Tbh I didn't like all 4 smells so for the cost, I think I would have preferred to have just chosen half a dozen of the small votive sized candles that I did actually like and use them. One of the candles tended to last a couple days so that will be what I do this year instead 😊

Agree with pp it was about four scents repeated one of which I didn't like which felt like a waste. Wouldn't buy again, would rather buy some Christmassy votives I definitely like and burn those.

Hmm if it's the same scents repeated it wouldn't be quite so exciting. I'd like to be able to open a new one each day, at least then there would be the surprise of something different each day.

Perhaps I'll treat myself to a few xmassy votives, and a lindt choc calendar instead 😁

I had one last year. I'm not a candle person and not really a fan on Yankee but wanted something that wasn't chocolate and couldn't justify the cost of a cosmetic one. It was crap to be honest. Same 4 scents which didn't smell that much. And the tea light holder was in number 24 so I had to open 24 on day 1 to have somewhere to put the candles.

Good call- I think all these advent calendars are crap value for money- much better to spend the money on the things you like.

Think I'll put the candles I buy into a tub and do a 'lucky dip' when I need a fresh one so it's still a surprise which one I get Smile

I wanted one until I found out they just repeat the same 3 or 4 candles throughout. Seems a bit pointless to me. They could easily have 24 different scents, they have enough of them!

I think it's a strange idea to keep repeating the scents. Surely better to have a different scent each day

Yes I agree, the surprise element is part of the fun. Just goes to show that we are all children at heart and like a nice surprise 😁

I like the lucky dip idea!

They have a few different ones which have different scents in, but generally as PPs have mentioned only 3 to 4 scents. Also because they are not individually wrapped the scents tend to blend together. Although despite that I've brought them for the last two years as a good alternative to chocolate, and not keen on the beauty ones.

Temptations gifts have a sale at the moment on lots of their xhristmas votive and tealights candles, so now might be a good time to get some!

I've had the cheaper tea light one and yes, it's only a few scents repeated. Last year I bought a box on Black Friday from Tesco which had a large jar candle in (a scent I knew I liked from the previous year) and some smaller candles.

I hardly ever actually light them (big candles) because they smell lovely if you take the lid off, the tealights I do burn but didn't get through them all and still have some now.

I had the tea light one. Most of them repeat ;(. I got them in the sale the year before so it was that bad. But I wouldn’t buy it again regardless

Do you have dp/dh or dc? Go into the shop with them and get them to buy you all different ones (you can still pay!) then wrap them individually for you and tie them on a string one for each day. And a big one for the end Smile

Yes it is samey , ( I got one last year for £10 just before Christmas)

There was a Christmas Eve votive for the 24th (no surprise there so not a spoiler Xmas Grin )

I didn't like the Almond one IIRC and the colours weren't really festive .

I've bought a little 'house' of votives from YC that was much better value but not an advent so you miss the thrill of opening one each day.

Go with a chocolate advent and a couple of boxes of tea-lights you enjoy .

I had one a couple of years ago and thought it was rubbish. The tealights don't even smell of anything

I had one last year. Was distinctly underwhelmed.

I had one about two years ago. It's nice enough but there were too many Christmas scents and they never got used. I was sick of pine and cranberry by January.

Tbh though I think Yankee Candles are a bit crap. Asda are currently selling a range that I buy from Walmart whenever I am in Florida and they're MUCH better and stronger. Only melts though. They're called Scentsationals and they last in a burner for ages.
