I've just tried this for the first time & it tastes ok but is totally beige. Is this normal?

Can I just mix it in with some bisto on Christmas Day? Am cooling atm to put in freezer. Any advice appreciated!

You can mix in some bisto for colour - next year, let it 'catch' and brown a bit more on the bottom of the roasting tin, don't stir it too much, you'll get a darker colour Smile

Sorry to say that would turn my stomach at the Christmas table! Sure it’s tastes fine, but it looks incredibly unappetizing to me. Just do some bisto!

Haha, I know-my folks wouldn't entertain it this colour-it is flavoursome though, will strain & bisto it up on the big day & cross my fingers! Thank you 😀

You can buy gravy browning that you add to the gravy to give it a darker colour without altering the taste.

Gravy browning is the thing you need.

Just add some gravy browning - not Bisto or a stock cube otherwise you'll alter the taste.

Thank all-have frozen some & kept some in the fridge so will try the browning in the next couple of days.

I didn't follow the recipe exactly as they had no chicken wings at the shop so ended up roasting a chicken & then putting the carcass back in with lots of veg, have a new induction hob & couldn't use the pan on it so it went into a pan & probably not browned enough, then too much flour. Hey ho, we live & learn! Thanks for the tips.

Add bisto, a good dollop of cranberry jelly or sauce and good slug of either sherry or preferably maderia wine.
Promise will be delicious

Well I made it with the chicken wings however it still looked exactly the same. Don't think it tastes great either!

Be careful with the gravy browning, you only need a couple of drops. It will do the trick though, whereas bisto will make it taste of...bisto!
