Just after some advice. I have made up a hamper for my friend with some lovely goodies, including a bottle of prosecco. It looks really nice.

However, it looks like said friend may suffer a bereavement before Christmas (elderly parent is extremely poorly and declining fastSad). In light of this, it feels a bit weird to give her a bottle of bubbly, as that tends to be associated with celebrations. I know it's not champagne but do I need to replace it with something else?

And if so, what should I replace it with?

I think it is ok and still a lovely gesture as a Christmas gift I have in the past few days suffered a bereavement and would not be offended by that gift

You're over thinking it. If you are bothered, get a bottle of red/white/rose.

I'd drink the Prosecco to celebrate their life, but you could swap it for tea, coffee or hot choc I suppose.

Hi
It sounds like a lovely, thoughtful gift and I don't think I would think my friend was being thoughtless at all.
Perhaps she will save it and have a drink in celebration of her late parents life?
But a lovely and entirely appropriate gift.

Thank you all, that's reassuring. I'm very sorry for your loss, redred.Flowers

Tea and cake instead of bubbly.

I think it's absolutely fine and don't think it's necessary to change it.
