I normally get him one. In previous years I've just searched for the authors he likes, but I seem to have exhausted their back catalogue. His favourites are Brian K Vaughan, Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. Any suggestions for other authors along those lines?

Ghosted (4 book series) Bedlam (only 2 issues) morning glories, Y:the last man and Revival are favorites of mine. Though I've also taken a shine to "The wicked and the divine" and "I hate fairyland"

Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett in the graphic novel version illustrated by Graham Higgins is a joy.

I love those same writers, OP. Have you tried Preacher, Fables or 100 Bullets? All great in different ways smile

I was going to suggest Maus too, and next Christmas you can buy him Maus II.

Also, there's a graphic novel of Paul Auster's New York Trilogy which is pretty good.

I know you’ve settled on Mays ( excellent choice btw) but just to add to the fabulous list everyone has provided add in Strangers in Paradise and anything by Will Eisner.

I’m assuming that he has the Sandman series and American Gods.

Thanks, I've made a list of other suggestions for future presents.
