What is your all time favourite book to read during Advent or Christmas?

We can back with a haul from the library which set me thinking about my absolute favourite. I think A Christmas Carol for me and The Jolly Christmas Postman for reading aloud to the DC.

We have a box of Christmas stories and picture books that we get out at December which I've gradually added to each year

We've got
How the grinch stole Christmas
Mogs Christmas
Mogs Christmas calamity
Lucy &Toms Christmas
The dinosaur that pooped Christmas
The Christmas robin (old 70/80s ladybird book)
The night before Christmas
Jolly Christmas postman
The smelly sprout

This year we added Kevin and Katie the carrot adventure picture book. It's actually really good!

I love the 1960s animation of The Grinch with Boris Karloff as the voice of the Grinch. We watch it on Christmas Eve after we get back from the Christingle service.

I like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, we have a quote from it framed which we bring out as part of the decorations.

Lucy and Tom’s Christmas is the Christmas I try to emulate every year.

Alfie’s Christmas, Mr Willoughby’s Christmas Tree, The Polar Express and Mog’s Christmas are all favourite read alouds too.

For me, I also like Christmas Carol but also like the Christmas passages from Little Women and My Antonia.

I think I remember that ladybird robin book - did it have a green cover?

Is it the one where they want the tinsel?

My absolute favourite which I’ve just remembered in The Story of Holly and Ivy by Rumer Godden. Mine have been too young to follow the story previously but I read it to shreds when I was a child and had an audio book of it. It is so lovely.

My favourite for young children is "That's Not My Reindeer", for older children "Selfie Elfie" and for teens "Mrs Scrooge". And for me, it's "The Lion, The Witch and Then Wardrobe"!

Has to be 'The Box of Delights'.

I don't think I have actually read that, just watched it as a child on the BBC. It was excellent. I should reserve it at the library.

I'm now idly wondering if there is an audio CD of The Box of Delights. A bit of festive cheer on the drive to work!

I should add, I really prefe Christmas stories without a lot of focus on santa, presents, raindeer etc as we have different traditions in our family
