Any ideas for a magazine subscription for a 10 year old? I was thinking of something like the national geographic kids one but it looks a bit young. Thanks!

This includes a book and magazines as well as access to drop in activities (usually excellent) in your area www.wildlifewatch.org.uk/membership.

Mine (10 and 12) have First News and really benefit from it. They've had it for a couple of years now and their general knowledge and ability to talk and debate knowledgeably about world affairs has really improved (appreciate that might not be what you're going for but its a definite plus).

The Phoenix comic is great & is really high quality. My 13 year old still loves it!

Aquila is popular with mine.
They also enjoy the magazine that comes with their RSPB membership.

My daughter loves The Week Junior. All the news rolled up with animals and quizzes and debate pages. Really fantastic and she loves coming home and reading it every Friday.

My two didn't enjoy Aquila at all but loved How it Works.

My 10 year old loves the Phoenix but didn't like Aquila.

struggling you might want to look at marvelunlimited for your DC. Its web based but you get access to every marvel comic/graphic novel ever published. Works out cheaper than the Avengers graphic novel subscription. DS1 (12) adores it.

Another vote for The Phoenix - it's weekly though. If they're into science, Whizz Pop Bang is really good, too.

My more studious child loved Aquila. The lively bouncy one prefers Phoenix
