What to buy a partner who wants nothing!?

So far I've bought him his favourite aftershave, a couple tops & some socks - only because i threw a load away last month as they were beyond hope! And a remote control car - I bought one for my son too so they can have races or whatever boys do when mums not home.
I was going to get new trainers but he went out and bought them already so that's off the table. He got a new coat only 4/5 months ago (not cheap and hardly worn!)
In the past he's had personalised pictures and things like that but I feel there's no more stuff like that to get that he's not already got. Not into games consoles and he has a tablet. Help me!
Don't really have a budget as such but I like to buy lots of things to open rather than one or two big things so a range of prices would be ideal to see - for reference, the most expensive thing he's bought me (I ordered for him to give me) is a hoover that was 60% off plus extra 25% off at checkout coming to £29.99 so for a 'main' present I'm looking between £30-50 then spend maybe £50-60 on remaining gifts - of that I've already spent about £40 on the stuff I've already bought. Thanks in advance for your ideas!
P.S nothing that involves going out to places i.e football matches/adventure trips as he's self employed and will never take the day off! (already made that mistake!)

Does he have any hobbies?
Books, vouchers for eateries or a shop you know he loves. Is he sentimental? Maybe a photo book of you all.
A subscription to something he enjoys? Any kind of magazine?
My husband is similar in that his loves are fitness and family. That's quite limiting, but he also doesn't enjoy nik-nakky, but for the sake of it gifts, so I don't have much to choose from!

Tickets to a show.
Something edible.
A new version of something they have and use.

H is too difficult- I bought him his favourite shower gel and face cream from l’occitane and socks.
I also got him a pineapple slicer as he has been raving about it Confused he doesn’t even eat much pineapple! I’ll pick up a pineapple to go with before hand and give that over first. Grin

Book is a good idea - he likes autobiographies, its just finding a person he'd want to know about haha! No hobbies or things like that as he's always working. I feel I've out done the personalised stuff now, I have ordered a framed collage of pictures of him with kids to come from them ( that doesn't count towards my spend lol)
Definitely getting onto a book store now to see if anyone he likes has done a book!

how about a movie night in hamper? New film he wants to see or voucher for rental, favourite snacks and promise to make fav dinner.

coffee maker - tassimo or similar with take away cup/New mug

is he interested in history/films? maybe replica sword or something? My dp has a ww2 dagger that he really likes. I've also bought him replica swords or dvds about things like ww2 or the underground.

one of those books that parents fill in for their children

does he wear glasses - personalised glasses cloth and new case

diary and pen

phone or tablet case

mobile charger

as a joke I've bought dp a Lord name change kit

depends on his interests my I've bought anime related costume props and figures for my dp. t-shirts with films on. New hoodie.

A favorite food or favorite colored shirt maybe. If he has an old smartphone it'd be better to get him a new one. :)

I'd say tickets to a baseball game or the nba or maybe a good book to read that's just for dads.

Oxfam donation card or Christmas dinner to Crisis in his name rather than buying stuff he doesn't want or need surely???

Did you really say he bought you a hoover for Christmas? I surely must have misunderstood, or maybe I've time-travelled back to 1957.

If you're seriously counting a hoover as a Christmas present, buy him a matching one.

If he really doesn't want anything why are you spending time energy and money on gifts that will be discarded by Boxing Day?

@Erica891 - 'A book just for dads' - what on earth would that be? Pretty sure boooks are gende neutral 😂😂😂

apostropheuse I wanted the hoover! Haha i see nothing wrong with that, it's near Christmas so why not call it a gift, I ask for a lots of things like this for birthdays and Christmas from all family - I've had pots and pans, coffee machine, toastie maker & panini maker, mum buys me shampoo and conditioner every year! And I love and use them all daily - I'd rather that stuff than him buy me a necklace or other jewelry I'll never wear, and I hate other people buying things for my house (ornaments, picture frames etc) without me getting to choose as I'm very picky about things and styles I like.
jelliebelly it's not that he doesn't want things - he'd be completely disappointed if he had nothing, it's just he never really knows what he wants until he buys it - meaning present buying is harder as he's already bought things (like the trainers and coat)
Some good ideas here though thanks, definitely looking into a few today

You lost me when you bought yourself a Hoover from him sorry... maybe you could treat him to an ironing board? Or a washing line? Wink

How about a nicer version of everyday things? So maybe leather touchscreen gloves, or a cashmere scarf or hat if he wears those?
Does he do any diy? I don't fully understand the joy that power tools bring. I've had modest successes with things like a ratchet screwdriver, a bendy mirror thing, a magnifying glass with clamp holders and a magnetic wrist cuff for holding spare screws. Like your Hoover these are not things that I would consider good gifts but they seemed to hit the spot.
Sugru (rubber glue), form cards, and grid-it have all got good reports on mumsnet this year
Etsy have some nice bedside crap holders valets/docking stations in various shapes and sizes so you could get one to suit whatever combination of crap items he has, e.g. Keys/glasses/one watch or multiple watches/change tray etc
If he has a cause or charity close to his heart a donation to that specifically might be welcome. I think charity gifts are nice if someone makes an effort to find out what you care about particularly.
Don't under estimate the joy of receiving a voucher or wad of cash instead of more crap
And firmly enforce a no-personal buying rule for November and December in future!

You've told him what you want as a main pressie so why no just ask him to say what he'd like? He'll still be getting some surprises with the smaller gifts.

I'm not wowed by the hoover. Perhaps a bucket and sponge set so he can wash the cars, or a new tile cutter, or saucepans.

Seriously how about tickets to a stand up comedy show? They're evenings.

He’s told you what he wants, I would obey his wishes.

laptop bag

Oh yes, and his favourite cologne or aftershave maybe?

Report
LittleWitch · 01/12/2017 18:08

Has he said he wants nothing? If so, then you should get him what he wants. There’s nothing worse than being specific about what you want then getting a load of other random stuff because that’s what the giver wanted you to have. It’s not about you.

If he wants nothing, then buy him nothing. Simple. It is just a tradition not an obligation.

Goshthatwentwell · 01/12/2017 18:48

You've got him aftershave, socks and tops though. Plus he said he doesn't want anything. So there you go. He's got stuff to open that he'll use.
Why are you buying more?
