Tureen or not Tureen?

One has offended Mother.

DM is very kindly hosting Christmas this year. Every year since I ever remember The Tureens of Plenty come out and are placed in the centre of the table like some steaming Dickensian Christmas vegetable pick-n-mix.
This year we have a pretty busy table with relatives and children and so I suggested, in order to save room and fuss, that she doesn't bother with The Tureens of Plenty and dishes up in the kitchen instead.

Her face......You'd think i'd suggested throwing Tiny Tim himself on the fire. It looks like The Tureens of Plenty are here to stay, and we'll all sit on the floor around the edge of the table and be grateful.

So, how do you dish yours up? Tureen or not Tureen?

I don't have a Tureen of Plenty (I used to have one though when I had my BHS Country Vine Dinner Set) , they are so much nicer than plating up for a special meal.

I can only aspire to a daily use tureen.

I do love how she keeps them for best, they were a wedding present from 40yrs ago and they've been more reliable than Father Christmas for turning up every year.

Do they have another table or sideboard that everything could go on, people can serve themselves there and then sit at the table? That's what we've done when my dads cooked an insane number of dishes that won't fit on the table.

Get her a hostess trolley for Christmas! She will be vowed with the 70'sesque glamorous convenience and it will keep the veg cosy and warm for ages too.

She'd love a hostess trolley, or one of those old 80's golden tea trolleys with a wonky wheel.

I've suggested putting the tureens on the breakfast bar (kitchen diner) and was met with an "Mmm", which in the language of Mum means "No chance!"

I use any bold dish I can fibd tureen at Christmas but there are usually only 8 of us so they fit on the table. We did once have 14 for Christmas dinner so I shoved then on a side table and people helped themselves. That worked ok

We call ours bowls, a tureen being specifically for soup. We have warmers, like ones you get in Indian restaurants, and they help keep the veg warm without cooking it. The problem with dishing up is that you don't know how hungry people are so you get easy. If people dish up for themselves they usually know how much they want so less waste on plates. You then have all your food waste to use in other dishes like curries and bubble and squeak
