At the weekend we went to Great Windsor Park and saw this at the restaurant in Savill Court.

And then Claridges Hotel appeared on my instagram account with their own upside down Christmas Tree.

What is this all about? Is this a new London Thing?

They've been around for a few years but I always think they look vaguely satanic (like an upside down crucifix I guess!). Space-saving and apparently show decorations better- though I like decorations to 'nestle' amid the branches a bit personally.

LEMtheoriginal · 22/11/2017 19:32

Bloody ridiculous

TheNewMrs · 22/11/2017 19:36

I work in retail and we use them for displaying baubles we sell Smile great for saving space! And customers always comment on them, saying it's nice to see something a bit quirky/different.

User24689 · 22/11/2017 19:47

My PIL have one. They think it's hilarious. I don't get it at all. And in fact everyone who comes to the house looks baffled by it and does a really obviously fake laugh when MIL explains how interesting/ funny they think it is!

Frege · 22/11/2017 19:49

They were a big thing about a decade ago, I think- I can remember them at work. Very silly.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 22/11/2017 19:53

What on earth is the point of them? Mystifying why anyone would be amused by that.

tobee · 22/11/2017 19:55

That had it at Tate Britain about 25 years ago.

AuntLucy · 22/11/2017 19:56

Only for twats..

shakemysilliesout · 22/11/2017 19:57

Reference to the Poseidon adventure?

Blondielongie · 22/11/2017 19:58

I want one. Our house is literally too small for a Christmas tree (think caravan sized house)
I think an upsidedown tree would save so much space.

It's pretty hilarious though. And dp wouldn't want one.

Anyone seen the half xmas trees you put up against a wall? 😂

PollytheDolly · 22/11/2017 20:13

They look shit

Rainyboooooo · 22/11/2017 20:22

They look like Christmas tornados.

Novemberblues · 22/11/2017 21:02

Arf shakeGrin I think it looks crap.

VanillaSugar · 22/11/2017 23:42

@tellmedinosaurfacts Yes, I agree. Positively the work of Satan!

They are weird.

@TheNewMrs But how do they stay upright? Surely they're unstable?

Awful. But perhaps not quite as awful IMO as the 'stylish' black tree someone I know went for one year.
But then we love our not-at-all stylish trees, complete with decorations made by 3 year old dds at nursery 30 odd years ago, and sundry others from way back in the mists of Christmases past.

I came across this one a few weeks ago whilst browsing christmas trees! Literally no words for how ridic it looks.

Shnazzyshot · 23/11/2017 10:49

Shock pas that is truly awful! Grin

Erica891 · 23/11/2017 10:51

Never really heard of this. It's unique but I don't think it'll be popular. I'd still go for the classic tree :)

Zoesweet · 23/11/2017 11:01

I've never seen this ever. It looks cute but doesn't give the feel it's Christmas. I don't know, but It's just me.

AnonEvent · 23/11/2017 11:05

I was really sad to see the Claridge's one. Claridge's usually have lovely, traditional, classy, decorations and it feels really festive. The upside down tree (designed by Karl Lagerfeld I think) just doesn't feel particularly festive to me.

I've noticed it before, notably outside on the hotels on Aldwich in London, I do not approve (and I'm sure they care about that).

They remind me of the chandeliers they used to have at Manchester airport

Zoesweet · 23/11/2017 11:13

It actually looks attractive from the perspective that it's a Christmas decor not a Christmas tree.

Debby08 · 23/11/2017 11:17

I wonder how did they come up with it and decided to put it upside down. I'd still prefer it otherwise.
