Who does your stocking?

Stockings have always been a big part of Christmas for me growing up and dh has tried to continue this for me. But he just doesn’t get it. For me, stockings are thoughtful little gifts and fun things or useful things. He will put 3-4 things in and....Just misses the point slightly. I do them for the dc now and for dh - we stopped stockings between us one year but I do like them Blush

So, if you have a stocking as an adult, who does it? I’m wondering if it would be ridiculous for me to stuff my own this year?! It helps for the kids to see Father Christmas remembers adults too (F.C. only brings stockings and one present between them).

Can you not just explain to your DH? How about an Amazing wish list to help him?

Believe me, I have tried to explain but dh doesn’t really do presents and especially not frivolous or fun ones! The main present is tricky enough and I just wondered about getting some bits for him to put in my stocking. Hmm, I seem to remember my mum did this with my dad (until I was old enough to do her stocking). They’re divorced now Confused

My DH is rubbish at this sort of thing. HE can not understand why I still do DS one as he is 18!

Could you not ask your mom to take DH for stocking fillers or take him around local B & M on Homebargins type place and show him the sorts of things that usually go into stockings? My DH never had stockings growing up so it was just not something he knew how to do so I didn't bother but now wish I had carried it on for us as I love a stocking.

Mum lives in a different country...but she does love doing stockings so maybe I could get her to tell dh what to include?!

No stocking for me. My mum did continue doing a stocking for me as an adult, but once I had children and did stockings for them she stopped.

I love Christmas stockings, but I am very happy just to make them for the children and not receive.

I haven't had a stocking since I was about 10.

I do one for all of us - including teens - anyone who is in the house too. The dog gets a stocking.

I have no problem doing my own. If dh did mine I'd get a magazine and a bar of nice chocolate. I do way better stockings than that. He buys me nice gifts generally (well mostly) but the stockings is a tradition I kept up from when they were little (we had them as kids but not after the end of Santa) so I have no problem doing my own. The fun is opening and showing people the funny/nice things

She could set up an Amazon wish list for him to include bits that you would like, then he can either order them from there or go and get similar from cheaper shops.

One year I really really wanted the kinder father Christmas, that is all I wanted and DH didn't get it because it was a couple of quid and thought I would much rather have something nicer Sad

So I’ve had a chat with dh and he wants to do me a stocking but doesn’t want an explicit list Confused he is open to some coaching about it though Grin so I’ve said things like, maltesers box, book, smellies, etc. I have received these things as a main present before...

My dh did me a stocking the first year we were together, my first ever one. I now do them for him and the kids and he still does mine. It is my favourite part!

Things he has got me in the past include, usually a book, sometimes a cd, a Swiss Army knife (sounds odd but very thoughtful I was very grateful!), hairbands (always losing them), a lipstick, nice chocolates, my favourite spirit and mixer in a can, a woolly hat, earrings, notebook, nice pen, perfume. Some things are the same every year as well for tradition. We basically do want, need, wear, read for the stockings, but there may be a few things in each category if that helps him to think about it.

I don’t have a stocking and I don’t do one for DH. Money was tight when I was growing up so main presents were enough of an expense once my brother and I stopped believing.

I started doing on for my DM for a few years before she died but it would include her main present too, a camera or a necklace for example. I always put a nice diary in, some individually wrapped smellies and pretty socks. Always a random thing too like a pie chimney or a spirtle one year.
