What are you getting your 8 year old girl?

Still struggling for a main present!! I have ruled out a few things like Nintendo switch, a trampoline and already has a tv, computer and tablet. Was thinking about a keyboard but not sure she really wants one.
What are others getting for their 8 or thereabouts, please?

DD (nearly 8) wants a mermaids tail swimsuit. Suspect I'll also get a LOL big surprise (if I can!) and some other general tat as stocking fillets (Shopkins etc)

What is she actually interested in? DD just turned 8 and is getting a 2 DS and some lego elves sets as she loves those. She’s a big reader so I’ve ordered a selection of books. Also craft stuff which she really enjoys, some things for her room (cute throw, textured cushion, funky lamp) and some clothes.

Lol surprise

Mermaid tail with fin (£20 Amazon not the £70 official version)

Some cds and books

We were thinking of getting her an iPod or cheaper MP3 player but when we sounded her out she said she would prefer cds so she can dance and sing in her bedroom.

DD (nearly 8) wants a mermaids tail swimsuit.

There's a blanket mermaids tail thing in Penneys at the moment, if that interests you too.

My class tell me they're getting soft toys, Smiggle stuff, books, an American Girl doll, craft sets.

In town yesterday, I was watching both DDs (10 & 7) to try to catch some ideas. DD7 looked at everything with interest but didn't actually say much. However, DD10 is an enthusiastic -greedy- consumer and saw lots she'd like and I think DD7 liked most of it too:
a JoJo (style) bow
some lycra 'active wear' style leggings,
a nebula pattern puffa coat at Mountain Warehouse,
pens and notebooks at WHSmith (although she already as a roomful)
long, black boots.

We talked about calendars since my father usually sends each girl one and DD10 wanted a 'dance' one - some ballet but some other genres. She has an ancient iPod2 which bluetooths to her clock-radio so any CDs she likes we copy on to the iPod and also sometimes rellies give her Apple gift cards to buy songs. I have also secretly bought a DVD of their dance recital (a 3hr extravaganza).

Both girls are able, but not enthusiastic, readers with several shelves of books they haven't read.

Although we passed Smiggle, neither girl even asked to look inside! I think Smiggle's day has come and gone for them and their school friends. Likewise, they still play with Lego but I think they are losing interest in it and are not tempted by the giant beach house, horse lorry type sets like they were.

Thanks- difficult to find out what she is really interested in. Would be nice to develop a new interest rather than tech or something she already does, as a main gift at least.
I'll be looking at some of these ideas now as hadn't even heard of some of them!

What is a LOL Suprise doll?

Report

DD spent her birthday book tokens on the new illustrated version of Prisoner of Azkaban this weekend and has asked for the first two as christmas presents. She has already read my original versions but the illustrated ones really are beautiful. Ive also brought some HP tshirts that I picked up in ASDA earlier in the year.

Shes also got a horrible histories book box set and 3 HH puzzles (TK MAXX)

Jelly Bean Nail varnish set.
Chemistry set.

Shes difficult to buy for, rarely asks for anything and has lots of lego etc that never gets played with. She does like board games and I know my mum has got her mousetrap.

One of my friends got her daughter a LOL suprise ball thing £70 I think it cost her and it was filled with a load of tat that wouldn't look out of place in a happy meal or out of a kinder egg.

Every time I ask my dd (just turned 9) she says a candy floss maker! I just can’t bring myself to buy something like that!

Report
Alakazam7 · 31/10/2017 07:02

It's exactly that with me. All the things she wants are plastic tat that won't last or get played with. She has a bike and scooter. Want something that will last. Thinking of the v tech microphone. Does it need an iPod or will it work with a fire tablet does anyone know? Looking also at lego friends from suggestions on here. Maybe a fingerling too if I can get one!!

Sdd(8) is getting pie face sky high, speak out kids vs adults, buckaroo, gooey looey and 5 second rule. See a theme there? She has ASD so maybe not your typical 8 yr old

Mine's not typical either & it's the first Christmas I've done so I want it to be great!!!

Apuskidu a LOL Surprise doll is a plastic wrapped ball and under each layer of plastic is an item relating to the actual doll that is in the centre. So you get the doll, shoes, clothes, stickers I think. Then the surprise is the doll’s special trick - colour change hair/does a wee/cries.

They do seem like plastic tat but my dd bloody loves hers and plays with them all the time. She’s got loads. She watches a YouTuber called Cookie Swirl C who plays with them and this definitely “inspires” her play. So one persons plastic tat is another’s treasure I suppose.
