Stocking ideas for older kids/teens

I have an 11 year old DS and 13 year old DD. We are away in New York for xmas so they are getting a small more expensive gift each and a stocking. The trip is a surprise so that's partly their present too. I'm struggling to think of ideas for stockings. I want to pack them pretty full so they feel like they are getting lots of gifts. DS loves computers/gaming and DD is very arty (but not really into makeup and trendy stuff - she's more alternative!).

Any ideas appreciated smile

Water bottle - light and a good space filler in the stocking.

Chocolate santa - these take up a bit of space in stockings, but may get smashed or melt whilst travelling. A chocolate selection box could work just as well.

A puzzle book/joke book

A money tin

Notepad and pen

A funky mouse, or memory stick. New computer game. Trick yo yo. Rubik's cube. Marbles.
Posh pencils. Fun stationery from Tinc (I like the long pencils and rubbers that you can bend!).
Chocolate orange.

Mine, who are a bit older get a fancy toothbrush, nice socks, a book, things like portable phone chargers, mini torch that can go on a key ring, lots of food things . How about luxury popcorn. It's light. Or a mini, battery- operated frother? They're very light. Nice pen/pencil maybe? Magnetic scrabble tiles are fun. Mini games that come in a tiny tin. Pack of cards.

Will you have any time at all before Christmas while you're there? Seems like American candy, toiletries and knick knacks would be the obvious choice!

Titsywoo Tue 17-Oct-17 20:46:48

Good point Mmmmmbop. We arrive late on 21st so should be able to grab a few bits when they aren't looking grin.

Thanks for all the ideas - keep em coming!

Fab ideas here thank you!

Just found this which would be good for DS www.prezzybox.com/instant-air-hockey.aspx

Hat, scarf, gloves, earmuffs - all good space fillers and will be useful in NY in December!
I agree with American candy etc.
What plans do you have while you’re there? Could you do other gifts relating to the trip eg foam finger or team shirt if you’re going to a ball game, theatre merchandise if you’re seeing a show etc.
Scrap book and materials to use to make a souvenir of the holiday?
Depending on budget maybe one of those portable printers that print stickers from phone photos?
My DDs (17 and 15) usually have some nicer than usual underwear and pjs in their stockings too, plus toiletries, bath bombs and lip balms, and stationary, lots of stationary!

Hope you all have a wonderful time, Christmas in New York is SO on my list!!

$10 in an envelope or bauble
American themed socks or underwear
Some British sweets in case they miss them while they’re away!!
New ear buds
Pack of cards or top trumps - might be good for the plane journey home

For DS (11) and DD (13) far we have planned

Power bank
Blue tooth speakers
Wallet ninja (utility tool)
Nail varnish for DD and found lipstick on Amazon that gives a light tiny of colour but in the tube is clear with a flower suspended in it
Stickers
T-shirt
Hat/gloves
Stick bots for DS
Am still debating over a Fitbit type watch - mainly for the alarm option to buzz on their wrists and wake them up so really a present for me grin

Taffeta Wed 18-Oct-17 09:00:19

Can I ask about the iPhone Popsockets? I see they are £10-15 on Amazon but eBay have some for less than £2. Anyone had one off eBay that works?

My contribution: mini basketball hoop

LittleLights Wed 18-Oct-17 09:04:10

Mini Lego packs

Everyone gets one in their stocking here.

Chocolate coins

Socks

Funny slogan boxers

I always put in a drink (fruit shoot type) and a cereal bar.

My kids are exactly the same age and their stockings hace similar things each year, it's become a bit of a tradition:
- naff Xmas themed tshirt to wear on the day
- lollies/chocolates, usually something obscure from a specialist shop
- a book, normally an annual from Book Depository of whatever they're into that year
- iTunes card or similar
- toiletry gift set
- Nanoblock set
