Christmas Eve , in our house, means a 'Creepy Film'

Not a horror film though Xmas Shock
I started watching The Woman In Black one year but chickened out well before anything got started.

Something along the lines of "Ctooked House" "whistle and I'll Come to You" or "The Turn of the Screw"

What would you recommend?
Something a bit "Oh" but not having me hide under the uvet with nightmares.

So, no , not THAT episode of Luther !

Well, depending on your definition of "creepy", perhaps Moon?

I really enjoyed The Cabin In The Woods, which isn't really what you expect.

If TV is acceptable, then both Stranger Things and The OA should fit the bill!

Ooh I just searched up The Cabin in the Woods - bit gruesome for Christmas I think.

I might search out Black Mirror (series of shorts) and pick a couple.

I'll ask DH is he's seen The OA or Stranger Things

Anything by Guillermo del Toro - Crimson Peak? Its horror but gothic fantasy. Not too scary.

Lots of people say the Polar Express is darn creepy.

Black Mirror is good but very very bleak!

I've always found The Nightmare Before Christmas to be quite disturbing Grin

Look for the 'Inside No.9 Christmas' special from last year.

The 2015 film 'Krampus' is OK too. Not family viewing, but not terrifying by any means.

Another vote for Crimson Peak- very christmassy due to all the snow
Krampus-really good fun !
If the kids are smaller-what about Gremlins?

Good call on Gremlins. It's in my top 3 Christmas films.

I love the idea of a ghost story for Christmas! V Victorian.
Woman in Black has too many jump scares.
Crimson Peak is lovely (and spooky as hell).
Also recommend:
The Others
Sleepy Hollow (more halloween-y though)
What Lies Beneath
Crooked House (by Mark Gatiss 2008, three part anthology mini series)
Van Helsing (2004) - shit reviews but a massive not-so-guilty pleasure - and Hugh Jackman! Grin

Have fun!

P.S: Are you watching with kids under 13? If so my suggestions are way too scary/bloody except for Van Helsing.
Then I would recommend The Grinch.

The remake from a few years ago of Whistle And I'll Come To You?

Session 9 is v creepy (filmed in a real life crumbling asylum).

My DC are 15.6 and nearly 18

DD has seen Annabel and the new It so she's ok with milder horrors.

I don't think I could ever watch TWIB (bought the DVD as a bargain Xmas Grin )

Crimson Peak looks worth a search Thanks

Totally, it's lush.
(one or two Tom Hiddleston sex scenes though, OK for your DCs?)

DS has ploughed through Game of Thrones , he''ll be fine.

DD woud prefer a Leonardo di Caprio scene but she'll cope Xmas Wink

I love a Christmas ghost story! I like Crooked House, it's a mini series, 3 episodes. Mark Gatiss wrote it. The psychoville Halloween special is good. Though obviously it's halloweeny.

Oh my word I remember when they showed that Whistle And I'll Come To You adaptation on Christmas Eve a few years ago. We were all SO creeped out! I love the Christmas Eve ghost story tradition.

The Awakening (2011) was quite good and certainly creepy - very Turn of the Screw-esque.
