Mum is coming here Xmas Day for lunch and am going to serve come chunky veg soup and crusty bread (as we're normally cold after going to an exposed cemetery). What would you serve for pudding given that it's our Christmas get together?

I haven't got time to do anything more as I've got to do xmas food shop, take her to the cemetery, know I've got two lots of friends popping in with prezzies, DD wants to go to church all by 5pm. We gave her two options when we'd have more time for her, but she insists on coming when I've got loads to do - families!!

Soup and bread sounds lovely. I always think it's best followed by a 'proper' pudding - crumble and custard, sticky toffee pudding, jam roly poly.
Mince pies and cream a good idea too.

One of those fake steamed puddings: Dollop of jam or golden syrup, normal 2 4 4 4 sponge mixture in a basin. Whack it in the microwave for a few minutes until cooked. Serve with cream or custard. You get that slightly stodgy, comforting steamed pudding texture, with much less hassle.

Mince pies, ice cream, satsuma and a box of chocs

Thanks everyone. I decided against mince pies as Mum had them at our house on Wed. Will offer some cheese and have just bought a yule log from Tescos (had some nice ones in there the other day), although, might get some sponge puddings to heat as a back up.

I know it won't take all day, but have an emergency appointment for DD this morning (think she's got tonsillitis) and will need to get some comfort things for her, so at the moment making anything has gone off my radar.
