Have misplaced my Christmas spirit...

... anyone got any ideas where I might find it??

So far it hasn't been:

  • at the annual Christmas shopping trip with the girls
  • in any of the 4yo's Lego Advent Calendar doors
  • at the staff Christmas do
  • at the school Panto or Carol concert
  • in 'Love Actually', 'The Holiday', Muppets Christmas Carol', 'Arthur Christmas' or 'Fred Claus'.
  • on the 'Christmas' Spotify playlist
  • in Santa's grotto with 4yo
  • in the box of Christmas cards whilst writing or the post office when sending
  • in the boxes of decorations I'm halfway through putting up after delaying for a week

Where else can I look, folks?

Is it in the miracle on 34th st DVD that you're watching while sipping Bailey's ?

Is it where you keep your photos taken last Christmas?

Mine's also AWOL. It's annoying me now.

I think it may have been thinned out by the tricky year this planet's had....and now I can't quite get hold of it.

I refuse to let it disappear though. I am going to try listening to a mammoth bout of traditional carols on Youtube and baking Christmas smelling treats like gingerbread.

I'll have a look in the photo album. It wasn't at church, but it's a big place and it may be worth another look. As a teetotaller, it's unlikely that I left it with the Bailey's or Disarrono, but dependent on whether it turns up, I. May look there closer to Christmas!!

I, like you user wonder if the pessimism moths have been nibbling away at it this year. I'm thinking that a big can of Charity and strategically deployed random acts of kindness might get rid of some of them before they eat the lot...

As a non religious person I was surprised to find some at the school carol concert yesterday (Catholic school so very religious affair).

I lost it again this morning when I walked into the living room and the dog had unwrapped half the presents under the tree.

When you find it let me know. I feel nothing when I look at the Christmas tree. Usually my festive spirit first turns up when I decorate the tree.

In my case I'm wondering if pregnancy hormones have stolen it.

Well I've found my people Grin

My Christmas spirit disappeared during a bad bout of PND in 2010 and I've never really got it back Blush

I'm generally quite up beat .. I just don't have any inner Christmas sparkle ...and I'm amazed by people who do tbh (how are they so enthused?? It's every bloody year! Can't it be every other year so I have time to miss it??)

It raised its head momentarily for me at Christmas jumper day at work, gone again...
Let me know when you find it OP or PP? Perhaps you could share?

After failing to find mine at the nativity or in church, mine unexpectedly turned up yesterday at the end of The Polar Express, perhaps give that a try?

Mine has failed me this year too, despite me working with pre-schoolers and having 2 primary schoolers of my own.
I'm hoping it's gone on ahead to the in-laws house and it waiting for me there?

Flutter I like your thinking re. charity. I think I might also make some Christmas biscuits and give them to friends as well as perhaps some chutney. They've all had their actual gifts so these would just be a friendly little extra. Might help with the festive feelings.

Can't find mine either. Although to be honest I'm not entirely sure if I can even be arsed to look for it.

Thank god I've found you, and thank you for this thread, OP!

I'm usually more Christmassy than an Elf in New York, but this year the only emotion I can muster up is moderate irritation.

Are we the same age, ladies? Is this the state of menopause? Or are we just fed up that we do all the arsing work and the only thing we're left with us mince pie crumbs?

We must take evasive action! We must watch A Christmas Carol! We must shout in unison "Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future: seriously, fuck the fuck of and take Tiny Bloody Tim with you. Baked beans on my own, in front of the telly, sounds idyllic actually. On a paper plate."

I watched Fred Claus last night. Never seen it before.

I too am still searching for mine.

I have given myself until Tuesday and then will stop worrying about concerts, parties and rushing about with to do lists.
I'm sure it will turn up thenWink

With how rubbish this year has been for the world in general I'd be surprised if you were the only one looking. Mine's gone missing too, not in any of the normal places. I've got a horrible feeling it's at the bottom of a bottle of Jack Daniels but I'm going to try wrapping presents, Christmas baking and watching the Santa Run in our local park first and hope for the best.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/12/2016 09:16

I find it in church, everything else is rather empty for me.

Report
storminabuttercup · 17/12/2016 09:19

Mines gone awol too.

I've been so busy with work, then arranging logistics of things like shopping trips, Santa visits, school nativity etc have taken the shine off things. I've half wrapped presents and did that grudgingly. We have no decorations up yet as the house is a hovel and needs sorting first. Which I'm supposed to be doing now but I've got DS whining that he's bored and DP has done his usual trick of 'having to work' to get out of helping with Christmas. He's going on his xmas do tonight too so likely to be useless tomorrow, he's usually ok but it's like he thinks Christmas just magically happens. Presents wrap themselves, the fridge gets filled by elves and I enter some weird time zone where I can take hours out to go to carol concerts and plays whilst still working. And yes I'm enabling him, it's either that or sticking the Christmas tree up his arse!

Did you try halfway down the glass of mulled cider at the reindeer farm? That's where mine usually hides. Grin Or at the Christmas quiz at the village pub? It's sometimes found lurking there too Smile

Well I've just had a mini binge...listened to Annie Lennox's God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and some carols from King's and then Fairytale of New York...I do sense a small fluttering of something. Xmas Smile
