I'm putting the tree up today and I can't be arsed with any of it

Same here. Just been in sainsbos.. Christmas tat all over the place and endless Christmas songs. I've pared right back on my shopping this year to.
I don't know when I'll put my trimmings up.
I am however looking forward to Christmas dinner, Christmas eve dinner and meeting up with friends... for dinner. Its going to be more of a food celebration for me ! than carols, presents and parties!

Trawling round Merry Hill yesterday looking for shoes.

People were queuing up to get into some shops.

Boots was ridiculous. To look at it, you'd swear the end of the world was nigh and the survival of civilisation depended Soap & Glory's The Whole Glam Lot which is Boots' latest better than half price offer.

Boots staff didn't even take the packaging off the pallet. They just left the lot by the doors.

I'm tired, I'm working on Christmas Day and no one I know is looking forward to it

One of my Aunts used to say "Christmas is all work".
And in a way she is right.
I've spent the week cleaning the house like crazy. It looked so perfect. Then I had to put up all the decorations, and ruined it!
I too have cut back massively, no big food shops, wrap as you go, we don't have gangs of folk around, or traipse all over the country visiting folks we don't really want to see...pretty relaxed really, and that does help.It'll all be over soon!

i'm beginning to like it more, though i used to be like you. I think thats because i've paired it down. we have a small tree, food will be delivered on weekend before christmas and the kids will have a few presents each (and money which they need increasingly more of as they get older). I guess its much less commercialised in our house than it used to be when they were smaller

I love it! But I think it'd because I buy very little and what I do buy is done online.
I love the food, the lights, the films and the kid's excitement, seeing family.

Uff. We've had a tough year; lots of health issues and deaths in the family, huge whacks of money that had to be suddenly spent on necessities, and stupid political things have all amounted to a year that has left me un-festive at it's end. Normally I decorate on December 1st but couldn't be bothered. OH has gone out today and got a nice little tree, he's mined the understairs storage for all the christmas decorations and in a moment I'm going to pour myself a large glass of wine and make it all "nice". We decided to limit ourselves to £30 for each other for presents. The reality is we don't need anything and don't want tat that goes into the bin/charity so we provided each other with a "wish list". Uff.

I'm going through the motions but honestly, I can't wait for January. My shifts got changed at work so now I won't even be at home to eat the fancy turkey I ordered from fucking Booths, I'm working 1-9pm Christmas Day and Boxing Day! Dh will cook and eat it with the dses

I've a couple of days off next week to visit family, hoping I'll find my Christmas spirit.

I haven't been arsed with Christmas, as defined by retailers for ages. No tree, no stupid elf nonsense, xmas PJs, christmas eve box and all the other nonsense.

However, it can still be a time for family catch ups, a bit of indulgent food and drink, just avoid the telly.

So, I will (hopefully) enjoy the 25th, just not in the way that far too many people on here are stressing about.

As loathesome as Amazon seems to be and I hope the bastards are sorted out - its been a god send this year, we had a trial of prime and to be able to order something and have it there - the very next day has been brilliant.

I felt so miserable yesterday but warmed up when saw the decs.
I am not doing big shop this year ( although always did it late at night anyway) just normal with a few extras. Presents all done. I cant take crowds anymore so dread normal shopping at this time of year.

Like others, I'm mostly looking forward to the food! We're going out for dinner this year to a really lovely restaurant and it's made such a difference to how I've dealt with the build up. I usually get myself in such a stress and panic (the whole family still remembers the fately Christmas Day of 2007 when I cried, proper full on SOBS when no-one finished my dinner... as H commented "we could have sat there until NYD and still wouldn't have been able to eat it all" ).

Having no food stress (other than how many tubs of Roses, Celebrations etc can I fit in the Junk Food Cupboard?) and 99% of my shopping done online has made this year a lot calmer for me.

I must admit, Christmas for me has definitely lost a little something since the kids got older (21 and 16 now)... I see a lot of my friends' FB posts, taking younger ones to see Father Christmas, sending off their letters etc (I had my kids a lot younger than most of my close friends) and it does give me a little lump in the back of my throat. I'll just have to wait for one of mine to start presenting me with Grandchildren now!

It's an American thing.

It's a doll. It sits on the shelf and is supposed to watch the children to see if they're being good in the run up to Chrimbo.

The grown ups move it around during the night so it looks like it has moved overnight.

DH and I were feeling like this. We weren't even bothering with a tree because we're going to Uganda for Xmas, and our old one had got damaged in a house move.

However, we were in B+Q and got carried away this morning. We now have a new tree, new decs and DH is currently in the kitchen doing a mini xmas dinner.
