Dd likes to commandeer my I pad and watches you tube, Netflix and sky on it, she also has a few apps (make up, ice cream maker etc) and some maths under duress 😂
I was looking at getting her a tablet of her own but not an I pad as too expensive so I wondered what you'd recommend.
Happy to pay up to a hundred but keep seeing the Amazon fire and it's so cheap I can't believe there isn't a catch.
Can anyone tell me if this would be suitable for her or am I likely to use it whilst sitting next to her while she continues to enjoy my I pad Hmm
Thanks

Ds had an Amazon fire last year, he was 7. It still works and he is fine with it. It's not apple and I miss that, but he gets on fine with it, no issues, lots of apps for him. The parental controls are brilliant, although we had to turn some of them off because ds likes to search for stuff on the internet and part of the parental controls is that they can't do this.
I would definitely recommend them though, worth more than £30 in my eyes.

Thanks. They are so cheap aren't they?
Ds reckons it because of the adverts which pop up on it.

Another thumbs up for Amazon Fire, my daughter (7) loves hers, and with an Amazon Prime account in our house too she gets to stream loads of music. Never noticed any issue with adverts. We've had it a year and paid more than twice the current price. I think they're dropping in price because they're getting old but they are certainly not out of date. I'd go for it.

My dds have a nexus 7 (in a bubblegum case) which work well for us.

We have the Amaxon fire ones. I have to say they are really strong too. Oure have been through the mill and never broken (touch wood).

We're totally apple'd up and I bought the dcs an amazing fire because I wasn't paying for more iPads...it was a disaster. Never mind setting up new accounts, the sheer amount of time it took the fires to do ANYTHING compared to apple almost drove me insane.
I bought em an iPad each the following year.

For my older kids they prefer the second hand iPod touches I got them, because they want specific apps, but my 5 year old is happy with the kindle fire for watching YouTube, playing Minecraft, kitten games etc. She also loves making her own videos and taking photos of the cat. I also have one for watching Prime videos while doing the washing up etc. We had a Nexus 7 but it was awful and broke really quickly. I wuldn't personally recommend them. Ipads are great, of course, but the Kindle Fires are much more durable.

If your concerned about the ads, you can pay £10 to have them taken off.

Sky go doesn't work on ds' android tablet, so he still commanders my iPad.

Sky go works on ds's kindle
For a small child a kindle is perfectly fine.

I realise that's no help but we have an older iPad mini still going strong after 3 years for my oldest DS so I think sometimes it be a false economy to buy cheaper and then it doesn't last.

I also recommend the kindle, although my DD has just managed to crack the screen on hers Angry

A friend is getting her older son (10 ish) a second hand iPad mini for Christmas, which is also worth considering.
