I started a thread in chat about this the other day and got the most bizarre response.

Has anyone got one of these for their DC?

Thinking of getting 3 year old dd one for Christmas because she loves things like letters, numbers and maze puzzles like they do in the books.

It's something I can leave her with unsupervised and not worry about pen on the walls

We had one when our DC were small and it was very successful! Interactive but not a screen, iyswim... I'd recommend them smile

Yes I would get one. I got them last Christmas for my DDs - aged 6 and 4. They have been successful and as you say, you can leave them playing the different games and activities without any risk! They are great for car journeys too.

Excellent thank you

The response I got on the other thread was basically calling me cheap for buying a fake tablet

My 3 year old doesn't need a tablet

We had one and my dd really liked it. She was seven or eight when she got it as well. There are loads of apps and games. Some great educational stuff. She learnt all sorts of things from chemistry to facts about antelope. She loved the little wildlife videos.

DS is 3 in Jan and I'm tempted. Not sure he would understand it though? Is it better for slightly older children?

They younger books are aimed for children 2-4 years so it's ideal for pre-schoolchildren

You then just buy the older books as they progress

I stand corrected. They go right down to nursery level with shapes and colours toon

He does really like the learning books he has, where I'll read the questions out to him (like circle the smallest number etc), im out shopping tomorrow anyway and I'm sure they have them on display in the local smyths, so I'll see if he seems interested or not.

Can you report back how you found it?

There's no where local for me to try

Of course. Just been talking to DO about them he seems to think they're a really good idea too. I'm of the same mind frame as you, my pre schooler definitely does not need a proper tablet!

Neither of the ones on display were working! They're very sturdy though. Lots of games too.

Thank you.

I've preordered mine through smyths as everywhere seems to be out of stock confused
