Kids are so into it and I thought the shops would be heaving with nifflers but zero.

Warner bros aren't normally so shy at missing a trick are they?

I think for the same reason that there wasn't vast amounts of Harry Potter merchandise (compared to what there could have been I mean, I know there was /is a lot!) which is because JK Rowling

Argh presses post too soon! JK Rowling doesn't like too much commercialisation of her stories, doesn't want it turned into a "how much money can we rinse out of people" effort.

Also I think because WB have total control over what merchandise there is, and keep demand and therefore prices very high in the places they sell it - studio tour, wizarding world etc.

I may be being a bit naive with my JK beliefs but she is God in my eyes so nothing will convince me otherwise!

I want a niffler for my very own <misses point of the thread>

SantasPantsalive Sat 26-Nov-16 19:04:22

There was quite a lot of merch in the Studio Tour shop last month. Isn't it online?

AbsoluteGonk Sat 26-Nov-16 19:09:28

Christ, I wish the sainted JKRowling had told the shop at the WB tour that she didn't want them to rinse too much out of the HP fans!

Yawnyawnallday Sat 26-Nov-16 19:10:11

Just about to say same thing, Santaspants. There's also a Fantastic Beasts app on android and iOS-. It has in app purchase options but seems ok - it's free.

Have you tried Primark for clothes / PjS etc?

EMP has some lovely (grown up) clothes too...

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty Sat 26-Nov-16 19:11:29

I found a lovely Newt Scamander movie scrapbook on Amazon for DD, but was hoping to find a cuddly niffler too sad There seem to be lots of those vinyl pop figures, but they don't really look very much like the characters!

I was also looking for a brown leather case like Newt's that she can keep all her HP stuff in, but the ones on ebay that are affordable are so tatty that I imagine they will smell funny! If anyone knows where I can find one of those it would be much appreciated.

Yawnyawnallday Sat 26-Nov-16 19:12:25

For what it's worth, we knew the shop was pricey and made ourDD do some mega saving (she's not great at saving) before hand.

Artandco Sat 26-Nov-16 19:15:54

It's not really a kids film is it?

BossWitch Sat 26-Nov-16 19:19:30

Just had a look at the studio tour online shop, no Fantastic Beasts stuff there I'm afraid.

I know the tour stuff is expensive, but considering Harry Potter is essentially the most successful children's series ever, the point is there could be a lot more! I still long for a Harry Potter advent calendar, buy alas, it is not to be!

I was also looking for a cuddly Niffler after taking DD to see it this week...or a bowtruckle (the little stickman, he was my favourite!!)

There was loads in the Platform 9 and 3/4 shop at King's Cross this morning. Spendy though. Here it is online:

"JK Rowling doesn't like too much commercialisation of her stories"

Really!? When HP first came out the place was (still is) awash with official (and unofficial!) merch.

BossWitch Sat 26-Nov-16 19:49:50

Yeah but the amount has come down since hasnt it? She had far less sway when the first movie came out, as they continued there seemed to be much less random tat. And with fantastic beasts there seems to be hardly any. She'd have had far more control over merchandising rights this time around as she is in near total control!

BossWitch Sat 26-Nov-16 19:50:32

She's on twitter, maybe the op could ask her?

Oldraver Sat 26-Nov-16 20:17:49

* JK Rowling doesn't like too much commercialisation of her stories, doesn't want it turned into a "how much money can we rinse out of people" effort

That cant be true

BossWitch Sat 26-Nov-16 20:28:36

Why not Oldraver? There could be a shit load more Potter and Fantastic Beasts stuff. There isn't. She had creative control, so it's not inconceivable that it is down to her putting her foot down over too much 'tat'.
Not claiming I have any facts to back this up, mind you!

J3NN1 Sat 26-Nov-16 20:32:24

I've been looking for the same and I'm really struggling! I did buy some beasts pyjamas in primark that are cute but I can't find anything else actually relating to the film unfortunately.

Artandco Sat 26-Nov-16 20:34:55

Harry Potter also isn't a children's film, it's aimed at 11+ years as j k Rowling has clearly said before that it's aimed at an audience the same age as the characters ie first one at 11 years, last books and films aimed more at 15+

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow Sat 26-Nov-16 20:39:30

Forbidden Planet had quite a lot of it. Ds2 got a t shirt in his lootbox. He wasn't impressed being 26 and not a HP fan (yes too old for lootbox too)

DramaInPyjamas Sat 26-Nov-16 20:55:11

There is going to be 5 Fantastic Beast films in the series. The 'tat' will soon be available grin

I haven't seen it yet, planning to go on Christmas Eve instead of a Panto this year.

Primark has socks and some clothes
