Bread sauce - yay or nay?

So I've never made, or indeed eaten bread sauce, but wondering whether to give it a try this year - I don't eat turkey, or much dairy really so can't see the appeal of thickened milk. However I do like to please my guests.

So, tell me wise ones, is bread sauce a deal breaker for you?

Yes, must have it.

I tried it once. I was very nearly sick.

It's more of a marmite thing than marmite is, I think.

Nay. It's disgusting.

It must be served.

It's vomit-inducing to me, but we have it for my mum (she makes and brings it). Just so long as I don't have to eat it.

I always make some for Christmas dinner, but only then, never any other time of the year. Odd really. DH loathes it, and this has become one of the seasonal jokes in our house.
Mine is very mild, made with warmed milk infused with onion and cloves, white bread and seasoned lightly with salt and pepper. Very simple to make.

That's how my mum makes it. Even the thought of it makes me feel a bit yuck.

Those who say yay, what's the appeal?

Absolutely love it. Just perfect with poultry in my opinion. I love onion, I love bread, I love milk, what's not to like?

Yes yes yes. Best thing ever! Follow Delia's recipe (don't get it out a packet!) It's is the very essence of Christmas dinner.
without breadsauce it's just a roast dinner.

Could eat a bowlful by itself! Warm, cosy and comforting :) I love it with chicken.

And watching vintage Delia was what started me thinking I should make it.

Love it. Make it for scratch as it's so so easy. We have it with pretty much every roast (every couple of months for us) and DEFINITELY with Christmas dinner. I've always liked the accompaniments to a meal as much or sonetines more than the main bits.

Might even go mad and do onion sauce as well this year.

Love it! It makes the roast. Just like stuffing and gravy. Yum!

yay!

i love it ...with the actual christmas dinner and it is an Excellent glue to hold all the turkey and ham in your sandwich. Not slippy like mayo.

milk, S&P, finely chopped onion and a couple of cloves and just let that steep, broken bread and let that soak, and then let it down to a saucy consistency with double cream.
pick the cloves out before you add the bread and get a good grating of fresh nutmeg in there too.

you can leave the cloves in and live dangerously.

Yay. I'm vegetarian, and to me, the best parts of a Christmas dinner are roast potatoes and bread sauce.

Yes, but only my DMs homemade version! I once tried MILs which had come out of a packet, blurgh.

I remember the first time I was served bread sauce. It was a New Years dinner with my then-boyfriend's family. His mother poured it from a gravy jug, I hadn't a clue what it was! That was in the UK. Almost 20 years ago. Haven't encountered the stuff since... My mother does gravy or fresh apple sauce. So it's a no from me!
