NYC restaurant gift-cards

Has anyone bought a gift-card for a restaurant in New York to give as a present? I want to get one for SIL, but the ones I've found online make you commit to a specific restaurant. I'd like her to be able to choose one herself (besides not having a clue about them!) - can anyone recommend a sort of universal gift voucher that would be accepted at a variety of restaurants?

Just found this link. Quality Meats (doesn't sound as good as it is) is an amazing steak restaurant in NYC, not as expensive as some of the other steak restaurants but simply fantastic.
