Whats the best lightweight bike for 5yo dd?

Any recommendations for a lightweight bike. Dd 2 struggled to pedal the one dd1 learnt on so I'm looking for a lightweight reasonably priced one.

HI Pineappleeyes - check out the Islabikes range, you'd probably want a Cnoc 14 or 16. They're not cheap but do last and hold their price reasonably well so can be sold on if needed - or alternatively there are always preloved ones for sale on ebay / gumtree.

Frog bikes are excellent and a cheaper (although far from cheap!) alternative to Islabikes.

We bought DTs bikes from Halfords for Christmas last year - they were £90 ish I think but I wish we had spent the extra on an islabike or frog. The ones they have are heavy and they're small 5 yo so have struggled a bit. They also needed the smallest size, 12' I think so we were further limited in choice.

Frog bikes are great and not as eye watering expensive as Isla bikes.

Frog bikes - as good as Isla bikes IMO but cheaper.
If they are too expensive Ridgeback, but they are heavier than Frog

Ridgeback are very heavy though. We had a ridgeback balance bike before we'd heard of Isla bikes and had we known I would have got the Rothan balance bike. We have the cnoc16 for DD from age about 4.5, though her inside leg measurement was quite long! It was second hand from Ebay and it's great, so light.

Another vote for Islabikes - I've sold 3 now on ebay, each time for only about £20 less than I paid originally.

I bought the first one for dd when she was 5 because she really needed a bike with gears (ride home from school 2 miles / 100m climb at the time!) and it was absolutely 100% worth it.

I don't know if Frog have the same resale value, it would definitely be worth checking.

Ridgeback are heavy but cheaper than frog or isla bikes. Better than a very heavy bike from halfords. Wasnt sure what OP meant by reasonable price as both isla and frog are quite pricey

Ridgebacks are typically heavy, but the Ridgeback dimension is lighter than their usual MTB.

Isla or Frogs. We have frogs for all of ours (3), the difference when they got on the frogs compared to their previous Halfords ones was amazing.
We keep them carefully and hand them down/sell the smallest one to fund new ones. They keep their value well, as do the Isla bikes.

Frog bikes are great, I think just as good as isla bikes which you only really need of your doing very serious cycling. But frog also do a good looking road bike.

DS has been great and way lighter then the smaller bike he had before.

Thanks for the replies. The frog bikes and isla bikes look great but my budget won't stretch that far. I should have probably said I had a budget in my first post. Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives that are still lightweight?

DD has a specialized its a good light bike and they are also a lot cheaper second hand then isla.

Budget is about £130 max. I would consider second hand. I've looked in my area (West yorks) but there aren't any. Sheso 5 so I'm guessing she'll need 14 or 16 inch. But I will obviously measure her & see the bike before I buy.

How far from Chesterfield are you? We got DD a Specialized Hotrock 16 inch wheel for around your budget from JE James. It's last years colours but 5 year olds aren't usually too fussy on that.
It isn't as light as the frogs or Islas but still has a nice feel to it.

You could probably get a frog second hand for that. Have you looked on Gumtree? I had a quick look last night and they looked to be around £100-£150 but I didn't look at the area. For a Frog bike you measure their inner leg measurement. Sorry to keep going on about them! i have also heard Hoy bikes are really good and lightweight. Similar price new but could be worth looking out for second hand?

Thanks 3boys I've searched for all the ones mentioned in my area & there aren't any second hand. She would need one with stabilisers. I'm not sure whether to get 14" or 16" I need to measure but don't want her to know why!

I've just bought a ridgeback mx14 (so 14 inch) for my (large) nearly 3 year old for £116. It's for Christmas so not out the box yet but it had really good reviews for the price
