About 12-15 generally. Which will include two or three things that are carefully chosen "proper" presents and an assortment of sweets, stationery, toiletries etc that are pretty much the same for both daughter's.

They always get staple items and then I elaborate with bits and bobs. The things they always get are:

Bubble bath
Toothbrush
Book
Dvd
Flannel
Chocolate
Orange
Socks
Underwear
Pens/crayons

Then I add a small box of Lego or playmobil, a figure or doll they have asked for, possibly some stickers and other novelty items and small toys.

This year:

An electric toothbrush (she really wants one!)
Chocolate
Apple and / or satsuma
Playmobil mini pack
A book
Some wooden play food - we have got about 5 items tucked away
Mini sticker book
Sparkly hair clips

She's 4

Too much probably! We have annual traditions that take up much of the space.

This year it'll be:
Character undies and socks
Top trumps
A pack of usborne learning cards (100 dinosaurs type things)
Small Lego set
Tiny wooden jigsaw

DD has a couple of accessories for her Lottie dolls so those will go in, and DS has a wooden transformer robot. They also have a little card/brain teaser type game each but not sure it'll fit

Probably about 15.
I give them a lot in stockings but only 2 thing each under the tree. Others do it the other way round.

Quite a few though mostly silly or practical. They are grown ups now but I'll be on the hunt for cheap daft stationary ( tiger seems suitably bonkers) sweets , wash stuff and underwear !

Last year I didn't put pants in ( both the older 2 had partners staying with us) as I though they'd be embarrassed but they felt it was an unfair change !

Yes I do about 15 items and it adds up. But I put more into Stockings than main present (they only get one main present from us and nothing too extravagant - three kids!).

My middle dd has things like a nice book, skipping rope, slippers, pens and stationary.

Depends what you mean by stockings - on mumsnet I get the impression some people are talking about big sacks (which I call tree presents!). If you mean stockings that hang on fireplace then my DDs (11&9) have about 12 items that total about £17. This year they have-

Tablet/phone wipes
Body shop lip balms
Fluffy claires lip balm - novelty
Chocolate santa
Fancy big memo pad
Diamanté hair clips
Novelty book marks
Pom Pom key ring
Bobbles
Fancy pen
Headbands

Blimey, it's easily 50.

Had never thought about it in terms of numbers of items as there are lots of tiny things so it's not filled with ££ stuff.

Santa brings the stocking and one other thing so I put a lot of time and effort into the stocking - it's also one of my favourite parts! Xmas Grin

It's pretty big, ineed. Xmas Blush

There's lots of small things like jumping beans/key ring/mini torch so even 50 things doesn't take up a massive space.

As a child I would put a pillowcase at the end of the bed and in the morning, after Father Christmas had been, it would be stuffed full with the most fabulous bits and bobs. Literally overflowing (or so it seemed to me!). Small toys and games, chocolate coins and sweets, bath stuff like Body Shop novelty soaps and bath balls, fun stationary, pens and pencils, the latest singles (showing my age there!), books, socks, hats & gloves, hair bands etc etc. I used to cuddle into bed with my granny and she would oooohh and ahhhh as I showed her my haul.

I remember the excitement of that more than anything so try to recreate it for my own children. They then get one "main" present from me & DP under the tree. Every year I say I'm going to cut down on the number of presents FC brings, then I forget what I've bought and by the time I come to assemble the pillow cases they actually seem to get bigger Blush

Guinefort that's exactly how I remember pillowcase stockings :)

AlWays a game/ toy. An annual, Avon toiletries ( pretty peach) or the bubble bath / talc with a dolls head on. And lots of silly stuff.

I think we managed to recreate it for the kids when they were small and they are absolute stars now at playing the game to keep me happy- being thrilled with matching deodorant and shower gel or a pack of chocolate coins - so sweet of them! Now I have their partners to include too :)
