What's a 1st of Christmas hamper?

I have never done one, but was reading about it somewhere else. Some people do a 1st of December hamper and include advent calendars, dvds etc but I am curious about what people put in them so I can do one this Christmas.

It's like an Xmas eve hamper, but it's on the 1st of December, we do this in our house, as it marks the run up to Christmas, the Christmas elf delivers it.

In ours it's usually:

PJs
Slippers
Snowman soup
Christmas books
Advent calendars
A few decorations for the tree
Bath bombs
Cuddly toys
Christmas DVDs
Stockings (empty)

My god, people seem to do about 5 hampers now at Christmas! What's wrong with a stocking for Christmas morning as usual? Why do they need pjs with a reindeer? Consumerism gone mad

No Elf here. Ours has Christmas DVDs, books, Advent calendars, mugs, teatowels, all of which are stored away during the year. We don't buy much new for it every year, maybe a new DVD and something like paperchains to make.

No hampers for any date, nor elves, in this house. Stockings out on Christmas Eve and then presents on Christmas Day. The whole thing is getting totally over the top and ridiculous.

Is this seriously a thing Shock

There will be hampers or such like for everything soon.

I love Christmas aswell but all this extra stuff seems to be getting ott.

I do it on the first because DD is christmas crazy and the longer the better. Half of it is the excitement. After the 25th it doesn't have the same feel to do santa themed colouring in and activity books so giving them in the run up seems better. Our list is usually:

Pjs
Christmas edition magazines
books/activity/colouring books
christmas themed chocolates
christmas themed bath bombs
christmas juice cup
little things like reindeer ears/flashing brooches ect.
christmas diy kits like grow your own tree/snowman.
Advent calendar
christmas dress up outfit/socks/jumper.

Oh how vuuuuulgar. How aaaawful.

Gosh, people do Christmas differently to others. It shouldn't be allowed.

🙄

Anyway.

I put in (I have 2 DC):
Pyjamas
Hot water bottles - Rudolph and a snowman
Bar of chocolate
Cola - ones with reindeer names on
Pack of paper chains to decorate bedroom
Small Christmas craft kit
Pack of cards to send to classmates
Gold/silver pens to write cards
Xmas mug
Small crackers to pull - nice to start the season off while wearing a paper crown! fgrin
Sachet of hot chocolate
Xmas themed pencils to take to school.
Christmas themed blanket.

Some is stuff from previous years that gets brought out only in December. I leave the boxes on their beds which have Santa duvet covers put on.

It's a lot of stuff they'd already get but just packaged nicely and given on Dec 1st instead of spread out.

We get all the Christmas tat out of the loft on the first weekend in Dec. This sounds very similar but just presented nicely!

Gosh, people see a thread with a perfectly clear title about something they don't care for, and still click on it...

PigletWasPoohsFriend some people think it's ott and that's fine, I am just asking what people put in these hampers! I don't really see what's wrong with that and why so many people feel the need to comment on this thread if they don't do it and don't like the idea?

The books, DVDs, stockings and decorations are old btw, but they're associated with Xmas, so special.

We don't do an Xmas eve hamper.

I didn't know this was a thing but it sounds fabulous! We've had a rough year and a particularly horrible Christmas last year. I think I might treat DS. He's 11 and missed out on pretty much everything Christmassy last year as my Dad (and DS's most beloved GP) was dying. Does anyone have any ideas for a preteen hamper?

I like this idea better than the Christmas Eve hamper- we brought out Christmas pjs and clothes at the start of December too- means you get more wear out of it (though most of it is worn after Christmas too). I love December - a cosy wintry month. What fun!

Oh balls. I haven't made the kids 27th October hampers. Presumably I'll be burned at the stake in the morning. Must try to remember the 7th November ones.

Yes, we do this rather than a Christmas Eve hamper in order to get more use out of the things and to be honest I think Christmas Eve is exciting enough without it so we just do the making mince pies and putting them out for Santa thing on the 24th.

Bore off moaning and move along to the next topic 😜
We don't have hampers but out come the Christmas bedding, Christmas p.j's ( because I don't see the point in having them Christmas Eve ), advent calendars and Christmas books and dvds. Most of this is used over each year.

Xmas bedding?!

Not Xmas carpets, Xmas patio slabs or Xmas artex?

#disappointed

Report
chocolatesprouts · 28/10/2016 01:00

Don't really think my kids would appreciate having to sleep on patio slabs but I'll keep it in mind 🤗 As for artex your about 40 years too late.
