HATCHIMAL - Should I bother in this case?

DD2 is 7 .

We have a "rule" where we buy everything on the DC Father Christmas lists (they're only allowed to ask for 5 things).

Dd2 has today added a Hatchimal to her list . Specifically a pink one .

Obviously there is no stock anywhere. They are silly prices on EBay (disgusting in itself ! Angry ) .

We've told DD you have to be 8 to own a Hatchimal Blush .

She said she won't be too disappointed if she doesn't get one for Christmas as she's not 8 !

She would be disappointed if she didn't get the Lego friends camper on her list .

I'm tempted to not bother with the Hatchimal but feel a bit bad as it Is on her list and I lied about the age she says she would like one. Confused

They don't look worth the money and her old furby was shelved on Boxing Day Hmm

Her birthday is at the end of January so if she still wants one I'll happily oblige then when there's likely to be stock .

Opinions please - yes or no?

Do you buy most things your DC want?

FIVE things!!! Blimey - they are lucky children - or are they I wonder?

I would spend the ridiculous amount of money on it if I felt it was worth it. Eg something like a bike/scooter/lego but I don't think it would get played with for longer than a week or two.

Get your dd some toys you know she will love and see what the prices are like in a few months if she's still desperate

My dc put 3 things on their list and get all 3. I would get her the hatchimal they are only little for such a short time and how would she feel if one of her friends got one and wasn't 8?

2anddone - I don't think anywhere has any left in stock.

It's not Christmas for nearly 2 months! I'm sure they'll be some in the shops before then...Hmm

have a look on stock informer to find out where has stocks. I've been looking this week and Tesco got the pink eggs in this morning. They sold out quick but they are getting regular deliveries from the looks of it.

I do try to get the things on DD's list. She is little for such a short time and I remember the disappointment of Christmas morning not getting anything on my list (at 5 I didn't understand about Dad being paid off!!)

My younger two put hatchimals on their lists ....we can't get them anywhere so they won't be getting them as far as I can tell. Feel a bit bad but I'm sure in the day they'll be happy with what they get

They get 2 presents each and a stocking full of the usual stuff (chocolate, sweets, few little toys, new toothbrush, Apple, orange, shiny coins etc)

No, dc make a list, can put as much on it as they like although in order of priority- Santa chooses how much of it and which items they get. Then you don't have to get the tat/ really expensive stuff/ unobtainable stuff.

I wouldn't if the furry was shelved as it's roughly the same thing.

RE the kinder egg, Tesco have big Christmas ones, for £4.

I think you have created a rod for your own back (MN fav) by saying list 5 things and you will get all five, much better for you and more leeway if you say put 10 things on the list and you will get five - means you can pick and choose based on cost, suitability and the DC actually get a surprise on Christmas day. WIn-win surely?

I always say it is a wish list NOT a shopping list, Santa does not buy on demand...

Also do not panic buy Hatchimals, it is only Oct, they will be available everywhere come early Dec.

There is a Facebook group called: bargain buys for busy mums. There was a post the other day saying which shop was getting new stock ( sorry I forget which one) lots of bargains posted daily on there too.

I agree with oohedobe upthread who said don't panic buy as they will be everywhere by December. Remember pieface last year, I couldnt get one anywhere, then by mid December I had ordered and recieved two games and only paid the standard rrp for each. So glad I wasn't guilt tripped into buying one from eBay at mega money.
I don't think I would have lied about the age bit though. Some of her fiends might get a hatchimal and if they are only 7 and she is upset she didn't get one, how are you going to explain that one?

I've just bought one for home delivery from Argos - in case anyone did want to panic buy now Grin

DH pre-ordered one from Smyths. They are expecting stock around 7 November I believe. He was able to specify the colour and type.

Are you in London? They had them in Hamleys yesterday. I don't know if they were pink though - I didn't look that closely. Smile

I don't know - I can't work it out myself but he has the confirmation to prove it. I will ask him later and post if it turns out you can still do it somehow.

Also the Entertainer's website will email you when stock comes in. I haven't had an email yet though - I think all stores are expecting deliveries around early November.

If you can get smyths and pay they have some money off codes at the moment too, they are in huge letters on the home page so won't post here.

Hmm, just spoke to DH, and it looks like he may just have got lucky. He just went into the page with the hatchimal he wanted and the option to pre-order was there. It doesn't seem to be now. Sorry about raising hopes. However, it might be worth checking from time to time in case the option comes back (or even phone them).

I think it will be a big waste of money. We went out on Xmas eve and bought two furbies. They were the biggest waste ever! 😩
