Christmas

What do your 9/10 year old want?

Dancergirl · 19/10/2016 13:53

Dd3 is 9.5 (10 in February). This is what's on her Christmas list:

ipod
Maddie clothes (??)
Superstar trainers
Black leather jacket
Puppy !?

We've already discounted we're not getting a dog Grin

Older two dds have said that her list looks very teenager-ish and I am inclined to agree. She obviously wants to be like her sisters but when they were 9/10 they were still very much into toys.

What are you buying your similarly aged girls? Are they all really so grown up these days?

Ds is the same age. His main present is a ps vita plus games. He has also asked for Lego Dimensions for the PS3 and the new Skylanders game Hmm

Up until now it has been Lego, Lego and a few smaller Lego sets but sadly I think those days are waning. Actually he has asked for a Technic Lego set but at £180 he can jog right on Grin

DSD (9.5) has asked for

Shopkins
Sylvanians
Books (surprise ones Confused)
Craft sets

Dd3 LOVED her Shopkins not that long ago! Although she does have a tendency to go back to things when I thought she'd outgrown them.

Will probably get her an iPod unless maybe a Kindle would be a better choice...? My older dds have kindles, they used them a lot for a year or so but now they both prefer borrowing from the school and public library because it's free!

I was thinking of getting my dd a gel nail set - with one of those uv dryer things. I am trying hard not to discourage her tendency to "girliness" which I don't share. She also enjoys maths/science-y stuff (don't share that either, sadly).

My dd 9 going on 10 doesn't like colouring, reading or board games so they are all different.

She also wants an iPod but still likes dolls, little figures and play sets.

She has no interest in clothes.

She had an Xbox last year which she begged for but only occasionally plays with. So I am stuck for ideas this year.

You can borrow ebooks from the library and read them on a Kindle Fire using an app called Overdrive. All for free!

Dd does still love colouring and craft stuff but we have so much already, the cupboards are bulging!

She's also a keen reader but likes to choose her own books and we use the library a lot.

She wants heeleys and shopkins. I think we are going to have to go down the route of theatre tickets and the like for her birthday

My dd who is 9 has asked for a lava lamp and a chisel?!! I know she won't use the chisel so looking for a cheap one. She doesn't want Lego anymore, but does like mini figure type toys to collect (Minecraft, manga characters Pokemon). I'm sad she's passed the Lego sets and sylvanian type toys but glad she's not asking for trendy clothes yet.

9 year old girl - Nintendo 3DS XL and a game, Vtech kids video camera, Doh Vinci set, Pokémon things, Star Wars things, jacket from New Look that I said no to but then it was reduced to half price, something plasticky with sparkly wings that she spotted in a toy brochure.

Yes Kindle fire is a tablet, dd wanted an iPad mini originally but we explained that would be all her Christmas budget. I'm looking at the new fire hd 8

www.amazon.co.uk/All-New-Tablet-Display-Wi-Fi-Magenta/dp/B01AHB9NU4/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1476891408&sr=8-14&keywords=kindle%20fire&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

All she really wants is Google etc for homework, and some games. It also can be used as an ereader.
We will then look at an iPad possibly in a couple of years time!

DD is 9 and while she still plays with playmobil, Barbies and Lego we have more than enough.

We think so far

new decent backpack
non-childish umbrella
clothes not strictly necessary but she would like to have
kobo reader. We can borrow from the library but not with a kindle and DD doesn't like reading on an ipad. Negative - library books are 1 week only and DD often needs more to get through a big book during the school time.
bath stuff
audio books
outfit for her teddies

Thank you nearly that looks like a possibility for dd. It's hard to be the littlest in the family without any of your own techy stuff. We let her use our iPads/phones to play games sometimes so maybe it would be nice for her to have her own thing.

I take it you download games etc as you would from any other device...? Can you download music on it?

9 year old doesn't really play with toys anymore. He loves books but I don't really want to get him another gadget to read books on. He had an Xbox last year and wants Lego Dimensions but I know he will build it and then dismantle it and then lose it all. He still loves lego mini figures so I will get him lots of those. I never buy clothes for DC as gifts so really not sure what to get him this year but I have got him some 3DS games so far. While typing this he has just asked me for a mobile phone. Shock

DD (turns 11 on Boxing Day) originally wanted an iPod (screen cracked on her old one about 3 months ago, so still usable but will die - and its 6 years old in constant use so we are ok with that).

However, on a recent expedition with DH, she announced:

iPod
Lego city things (she's pointed to the airport set I believe!)
An Xbox game (something specific was pointed out)
and I know he mentioned a couple of other things too (mad busy so it slightly went over my head).

When DH pointed out that all these things are very expensive, she immediately answered that so was an Xbox and an iPod was much less than that! (Santa was very generous and brought an Xbox last year - Santa shopped alone and I think felt guilty about a pretty shitty autumn so there was an added element to the fiscal spending at the time).

THAT is the point at which he became convinced (and I agree with him) that she no longer believes in Santa but is going to milk it for all she's worth!

Dancer I really don't know - I would assume so as its their latest model, may be an idea to check the Amazon reviews and see if anyone mentions it.i think it's got pretty good parental controls regarding screen time etc.

Sorry that last comment was just related to music, games are downloaded as per any other tablet.
Also ordered this Lego set

Dd will be pleased as its 12+, which will make her feel more grown up ( sad)
