I have been searching for years for the name of my favourite Christmas classical piece of music and found it this morning. It's Troika. Have bought the ringtone for December, just makes me feel Christmassy all over.

My other favourite is Carol of the Bells from Home Alone.

It is the Christmas thread[hmmm] I am not playing it now, and if I left it to December I would have forgotten in my sieve called a brain.
The reason I found it was that I got an email for various Christmas shows, and the playlist on the one for the Albert Hall had it on.

Maddy Prior, A Tapestry of Carols (1987)

Traditional and medieval carols and Christmas songs, there is no better album for trimming the tree and wassailing!

Good thread for inspiration! We listen to the same things every Christmas, and whilst I love them and won't stop, it would be nice to add some other into the mix.

In addition to the Christmas pop 'classics' (Slade, Wizzard, Elton John, Shakey etc) we have the Phil Spector album which I adore, reminds me of childhood Christmases. We also have a Carols from Kings album with all the hymns on which is beautiful when decorating the tree.

oh, I LOVE Christmas music so much
I think I have all the stuff listed
But my favourites are Frank Sinatra's Christmas album, especially the Christmas Waltz, and Hely-Hutchinson's Carol Symphony (part of which was used for the theme music to The Box of Delights, if you're old enough to remember that Grin)

March from The Nutcracker. And Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.

I have a general rule of no Christmas songs before Halloween (or I'd listen to them all year long) but this thread is tempting me!

Just to lower the tone, this was favourite in our house last year!!

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl

Not under any circumstances the pile of shit effort that Ronan Keating dribbled out you scumbag you maggot you're cheap and you're haggard............... catch yerself on Ronan, that just won't do.

So. Fairytale . On a loop. Xmas Grin

I think that's almost as good as Dominick the Donkey stillrocking

I totally agree re: the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.

I love Christmas music. If it wasn't for the fact we're marrying in July, I'd want a Christmas themed wedding reception Grin

O Holy Night makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. As does Boots by the Killers, which is my favourite modern song

Oooh grumpy!! Xmas Angry

Christmas baking to Mr Bublé, and probably the wrapping too.

Tree goes up to Jim Reeves. It's the law in house.

I do love a traditional carol though.

Carol of the Bells!!! I love that but never knew what it was called. I'm off to download it now, otherwise I may forget too ;)

Snoopy's Christmas, by the Kingsmen. Can't understand why it isn't as popular over here as it is down under.

I have a cd of s local brass band playing carols. It's perfect. Some Radio 4 ish - Alan Bennet maybe ? - once said that, if you are from the North of England, then brass band music was like stroking your soul. 😄

I cam on to say absolutely anything but Fairytale of New York 70. I detest that song more than I can say.

As for favourites, Little Drummer Boy by Bing Crosby and David Bowie, Mary's Boy Child by Boney M, and In Dulce Jubilo by Mike Oldfield. Oh and Ring out Solstice Bells by Jethro Tull. Can you tell I'm a child of the 70s?

Report
handsfree · 19/10/2016 22:14

I feel the urge to play some right now!!! Love Solstice Bells.

You can't beat a good carol though, silent night and oh come all ye faithful are probably my favourites.
