is there a way to get an iPad cheaper?

Ds has a kindle fire which he does enjoy but it really is on it's last legs and it's becoming frustrating to use. It's only lasted a few years. I'd really like to get him an iPad of sorts - a mini maybe? But I'm so out of touch with technology (I've an iPad 2 which I've had for 5 years and works fine!)

What's great for primary school ages and why?
Is there anywhere that makes it a deal? (Just saw on another thread about new customers to very?)

Thanks in advance.

The well known secondhand computer and gaming store? Not sure if I'm allowed to say its name on here but that is how I'd buy expensive tech - just get a slightly older model second hand

I have one from pcworld that I pay £18pm for 2 years, after that I can either pay for 1more year and it's mine, or trade it in for a newer one at the end of the 2 years. And get cash back.

Go to Cex. Most things come with a warranty and you can get very good deals on nearly new iPads.

okok, you can say it here and it would be helpful if you did !

Agree on getting a secondhand one but I'd say go to GAME if possible instead of CEX, they also offer good warranties on everything but they actually honour them, unlike CEX who will argue every little issue and do whatever possible to not return/exchange if there is a problem. Have had very good experiences with GAME and their secondhand phones/tablets.

My kids have iPad minis, I think they are great. We have the regular iPad and there's nothing that the big one does that the little ones can't!

Bit in all honesty, I wouldn't buy a small child an expensive tablet such as an ipad.

I would get them a cheaper good one, such as the new kindle or a lenovo.

That's all, that's really helpful.

He's had a kindle and it is good but it's on it's last legs in under 2 years and there's loads of the school based stuff he does that can't be done on a kindle so I'm reluctant to buy another just because it's cheap. I'd rather have something decent that will last.

Can I ask which school stuff can't be done on the kindle?

His school sign up to a few maths and literacy apps - and you can't get them on the kindle. You can do it on a web page but it's a really poor interface so we end up giving him our iPad to do it on instead.

You should look at android ones then if an apple one is too expensive

At the age he is I'd go for an android one. It'll have any apps you need and be a fraction of the cost

Black Friday is usually the last Friday of November. I got the cheapest mini, with Argos for £180 last year.

Black Friday is usually the last Friday in November. I got the smallest mini at Argos last year for £180. JL will price match them and add an extra years warranty so go with them if you can.

Thankyou red crayons! £180 with a years warranty sounds amazing! My son has special needs so is quite clumsy (dcd) so warranty sounds amazing Grin xx

Don't think warranty will cover accidental damage but I may be wrong.
I bought a refurbed iPad 4 from eBay for £139.99 for dd and giving eldest dc my old iPad 4. I was hoping to be in a position to buy a new iPad Pro (going halves with dp) but don't have the funds at the moment so may have to wait to treat ourselves on new year.

The Samsung galaxy tab is fab. 9inch one is £180 in Sainsbury's and apart from iTunes does everything an iPad does.

We have both in this house and kindle fire. And the galaxy tab is the one most used despite us all having iPhones.
