Ds1 wants skylanders trap team for Christmas. We have the wii u. Any advice on what to get on top of the starter pack and where to buy from.

My son informs me there's a new skylabders game coming out before Christmas. We too have a wiiU. Be warned about all the extra expense though, those little plastic bastards are expensive. Trap team is a little older now though, it's worth trawling eBay for bargain bundles of traps

I didn't know about the new one! I might give him trap team for his birthday before Christmas and the new one at Christmas if he likes it.

Anyone know which bits he will have to have?

why trap team? you can get the most recent one (superchargers) for £15 from smyth's toys.

(my kid has all of the games, except for giants, all bought when they were cheap)

we won't be getting the new one due out until the price drops. You can use skylanders from previous games in the newest ones, but yo u can't use newer ones in older games.

Cex is quite good for the extra skylanders. They are preowned but the things they sell come with a 1 year guarantee.

He watched a YouTube video of superchargers and didn't like it, not sure why!

My son is much more into trap team too. He has Ass and we had no idea just how much of an obsession this would become. Second the cex reccommendation, my son does very well picking them up at car boot sales, we've never bought the skylanders new as it would ruin us!

My son loves Swapforce. It's actually pretty fantastic the way that you can swap the body parts and the new Skylander you create appears on the screen. We bought it by chance just after Christmas last year as Smyths had the stater pack for €1. We were all embarrassingly entranced by the swaps. We've bought loads more since. They aren't all swap ones but you can use regular Skylander figures for most of the game. CEX is great for picking up new figures.

ASD DS here too.

We have every.bloody.one.

My games room is worth a fortune in Skylander stuff alone.

Do you need certain characters to go with specific traps? Any recommendations for which to get would be brilliant.

You need a trap for every element in order to do the game completely.

For trap team you therefore need both the characters from each elemental set and the traps. You can play it wth only a couple of traps and a couple of characters but you won't be able to do every part of the game. Most people have a collection of characters built up from the earlier games (mine have about 40 of the bloody things)

Mine also played trap team far more than they ever played superchargers. They have all of the skylanders games. Superchargers is actually a good game but it is different because of the racing. The company who makes skylanders lost millions on it.

I would start off with Trap Team if he wants that, make sure you get a starter pack and not just three characters, and then see which characters he wants once he has played it. They all have specific attributes, so to speak, and he will get a feel for what he wants.

If it is for a present and you want to get him more than just the starter pack, what about a voucher or an iou for some characters.

Be warned, they are range in price from about £5to about £-5as I recall. You can also get triple packs, or pre owned characters, the latter from Game.

Ive got a starter pack and some characters extra all for £35. I'll post a pic of the characters, can someone tell me what traps of extras I'll need to go with these characters?

I'll give him some money and a trip to game when he figures anything else he wants.

These are some of ds's traps. I think the cardboard thingy they're in comes in the starter pack. We've been lucky and picked most up at carboots for a quid or two each. I think you'd honestly be best looking on eBay, trap team is a little older now so people might be selling off bundles of their dc have outgrown it. As you can see the traps are completely different to the skylanders themselves. In truth, I understand NONE of it, but it makes ds happy

You can see the element for each character on the front of the box. It's the little symbol above the name. But its about which baddies you can trap. You need a trap for each element and the Kaos trap and you can then play with just those (but I think you'd have to releases baddies in order to use the trap on another baddie of the same element).

This I have gleaned from having it on in the background though and so I apologise if it isn't quote right.

Oh dear, what hav I got into! Do I have to buy baddies and Kaos traps? Confused

no the baddies are in the game. You just need the right elemental trap to trap them.

curlywillow · 17/08/2016 14:49

Kaos is the master baddie and he has a special trap.

Like I said, it can be a very expensive hobby. If I'd realised, I'm not sure i'd have bought ds any skylanders games tbh. Still, we were spending a fortune on Lego before so swings and roundabouts I guess.

Blimey that Kaos trap is expensive! I best get stalking some of the bundles on eBay.
