DD 20 loves Xmas and thought she might like a weekend at a nice city with a Xmas market

There's one in Birmingham. It's quite big and atmospheric with stall holders coming over from Germany. They serve things like gluhwein and bratwurst etc. Birmingham isn't a quaint little town though but the shopping in the city centre is pretty good now so a great place to do some Xmas shopping!

Abroad, I can heartily recommend Düsseldorf, Cologne and Berlin for the authentic experience of a German Xmas market. Germany does Xmas so much better IME! 🌲☃

Is Edinburgh any good? It looks amazing! My sister lives in bath and hates the Christmas market she said it's a nightmare and dangerously over crowded. I would probably feel the same way if I lived there.

IIRC, Birmingham is the biggest German market in Europe - it's bigger than anything in Germany!

Hahaha sorry but it's fucking huge and I think it's actually the biggest German Christmas market in Europe outside of Germany!

It's awesome as it's so big, stretches the entire length of New St and bits of Broad St now too.
I love it. They have lovely food and drink stalls, multitudes of them, lots of craftsy stalls you could get presents from, a little funfair for kids.

It's insanely busy at the weekend. Try and go on a weekday if you can. Between 2 and 5.
If you go there have all your valuables locked away in zippable pockets and bags, don't walk around with your phones in your hands.
Arrange a meeting place with friends in case you get lost. or your phone's nicked
Don't spend too long under the singing moose's head. It'll send you mad.

Winchester Christmas market is much quainter, set in the cathedral grounds. It is much smaller than Brum.
They also have an ice skating rink.

Düsseldorf was excellent. Very festive. Cold as witches tits.

I went to the Lincoln one and the Birmingham one this Christmas just gone and the Lincoln one is much nicer, the castle and Lincoln itself is so atmospheric.

I wouldn't say the one in Edinburgh is big, but it is lovely and there is lots of other things happening in the city at the same time so it's easy to make a few days out of a trip.

I also agree that the Bath Christmas market is a must! Last year we used airb&b to stay here because we didn't book a hotel in time and the prices were so high! Book early if you can, and somewhere central so you can walk in and out as often as you like

Manchester is huge, it spreads right around the city centre and there's usually an ice rink somewhere in town too :)

Edinburgh is good. Usually the big wheel, lots of food stalls and the ice rink outside too. We used to go every year.

Don't do Birmingham! The German market is shit and busy. The same stalls repeated over and over.

York and Manchester, the York one is probably a bit better for kids as the Manchester one can get a bit boozy at the weekend
