What kind of a knife/scissors do I need to spatchcock a turkey?

I'm going to spatchcock my turkey this year and I think I'll manage the technique fine as I have boned chickens etc before. However, our knife set is fairly crap and sharpening doesn't make it much better. I've been planning on picking up a decent set for a while now but cannot justify a £70+ splurge christmas week fblush My scissors is crap too. Has anyone managed doing it with average knives?

No idea, but I would never be able to get a spatchcocked Turkey in my oven, won't it make it really cumbersome to cook?

I've used poultry scissors with chicken and they worked a treat. I picked them up at Waitrose or Lakeland and definitely didn't pay £70.

Have you any gardening tools? I think a pruning saw or shears might work fine. Have never tried to spatchcock anything mind you.
