Christmas

Filling a child's stocking for a 4 year old you don't know?

We may have an extra with us this Christmas. Without going into details and risking outing myself... I would like to fill her a stocking incase (we won't know for definate till Wednesday and that would be too rushed).

I can go to the shops and fill a stocking with lots to open...

For a 4 year old girl who I'm told is girly I was thinking...

Fairy wings and wand
Coloring book and pencils
Playdough
Some farm animal toys
A baby doll and a stroller
A princess dress
A tea set

Anything else you would add? All suggestions welcome!!

I'd go for felt tips rather than colouring pencils as they are easier for a 4 yo to use.

Will this girl be with you a while? Does she have nothing to bring with her? I only ask as most 4yo I know have a doll, a stroller & a tea set.
My DD's stocking consists of

  • choc santa
  • princess bubble bath
  • character pants
  • sticker book
  • glitter pens (I may regret this!)
  • bobbles
  • choc coins
  • pick up sticks
and then she's got some Playmobil which will be her big gift from Santa.
Most 4yo I know we're beginning to enjoy character play with Sylvanian or Playmobil at that age.

Small beanie boo type teddy and new pyjamas.
I'm a foster carer and it can be hard knowing what to get as you don't want to replicate what they have.

Op I guess you are a foster carer? Flowers What a wonderful thing you do, foster carers are just wonderful people.
It sounds like she is going to have a wonderful stocking. I would maybe add a Dvd and a couple of books too. Maybe a Disney princess Barbie doll and one of the Disney princesses that float in the bath? My dd is a couple of weeks shy of 4 and these are her favourite things.
If she is coming to you from a stressful time in her life then maybe one of those instant baking sets they sell in the supermarkets (eg frozen cupcakes)? I'm sure she would love to do that with you?

Sorry for the overuse of "wonderful" there!

Watercolours - much cleaner than other paints and actually very easy for young kids to use.

Poundland have a lot of stuff for girls at the moment, some good Frozen stuff (hairbands, brushes, nail polish kits etc), craft paper, stickers, some make-your-own fairies and that - you can bulk out a stocking with loads of presents. And if she's anything like my DD, she might like little bits of "crap" more than bigger presents.

Cbeebies comic

Bath crayons

I'm a foster carer and I would say any child in a new and unfamiliar situation will regress, so think younger. I try to think along sensory lines - so a singalong cd, torch, play doh, chocolates and bubble bath are good options. Also a teddy, pjs and dressing gown, ball, crayons might go down well. Good luck!
