Where do department stores get the decorations for their window displays?

I was in town today and spied some especially beautiful but huge (about 18" diameter) clear glass baubles in a shop window. I would love some for next year to put up at my windows at home but have no idea where I would find something similar. Where do the big stores get their display decorations? And what do they do with them once Christmas is over? I am so tempted to mail the store and ask if they sell them on after Christmas (surely not Xmas Confused

Any clues? Are any mumsnetters Christmas buyers for Next? Xmas Grin

Definitely ask the store. I went to a wedding and the hall was decorated with last season's Monsoon window display! The bride had asked in her local store and they gave them to her for free :)

I know someone who designs window displays. She either makes the stuff or commissions it. So asking in store is a good bet

I did a quick Google and found some online shops with the tag line - 'for retail window displays', so you if you don't have any luck asking in store you will be able to source some yourself... Mind you, the ones I've come across so far aren't that pretty and are certainly not cheap!

I used to work upstairs from here and they sell all the stuff for shop window displays.

They have some glass baubles but not sure they are what you are looking for.

this company is local to me. They do big shopping centres etc and gave us loads of stuff to decorate a venue for a charity ball I once helped organise.

Thank you for the replies Smile. Oreocrumbs, I did a quick Google and came up with some similar sites to you. Good grief, the prices!!!!!! I think I will drop the store an email. It can't do any harm and the display was so, so pretty. God loves a trier (and hopefully a chancer!!!!)
