Christmas cards - how many have you sent?

Normally there is a thread about how people 'aren't doing Christmas cards' and they want to 'save the trees' and just give directly to charity anyway...

But I haven't seen one this year. Is that because it is a given people don't send them anymore?

I've only received 4 so far (admittedly I haven't sent them out yet) but used to receive loads.

Am I the only one to experience a sudden drop off?

I am posting a grand total of 3. Don't bother anymore even with close family. Used to make my own but no time. DD will make them for GP's. Easier just to put happy christmas on fb or text. Only a handful bother in work now too.

Only one to my elderly father.

Nope, I'm the same. I've only received one. Tbh I've sent one back and sent cards to my ds nursery friends but I don't think I'll bother sending anymore.

These days I only send them to elderly relatives who'd miss them if I didn't send them.

I've just made, addressed and stamped 30! And I'm exhausted and wondering if it is worth it... I normally send them out first week or so of December, this is the latest I have ever done it so haven't bothered with international members of the Christmas card list.

On the other hand, MN is full of people wittering on about family traditions in a fairly sentimental way, but Christmas cards which are a fairly low cost and meaningful effort seem to be forgotted. It's a bit sad and odd imo.

I've posted about 20 today and DD has done 30 for classmates. And about 5 for giving directly to neighbours, teacher etc.

Have put DDs ones in her room so they don't end up everywhere downstairs but for us have only received 1 in the post so far, 1 from neighbours and 1 from a business (not the takeaway!). Might have to pinch some from her room if we don't get any more soon...

30-40. Spent a whole choosing them, used fancy gold pen, brief messages in some, envelope seals/stickers. And Just to add a bit of X-factor sob story to it, I'm very ill so writing them was a struggle.

Effort was made.

We've had 8 back.

I don't think people are doing them anymore. I said I wasn't going to do them but my DM's 😱 face made me cave, but no more. It's not worth the time and expense. or my lovely gold ink

I will still send to elderly relatives though.

I've seen a massive drop in numbers the past few years. But then at what 54p for a 2nd class stamp it's not surprising. The PO would provably actually make more if it dropped the cost of stamps leading up to Christmas

I've made and sent 17. Every year I say I'm not going to send any, but I just can't follow through with it!

I'm sending about 50. So far had sbout 20. I've slightly mixed feelings about them. I find them a chore and expensive to send. But I have a perfect place to display them so like getting them for that reason.

I've sent 33

Dd has sent 12 to her classmates and wrote a few to teachers.

I've written about 50 received about 20, but I usually get a late flurry of them. I do keep a list of bith sent/received so I know for next year who does what. I have no issue if people want to email instead, the cost is significant now, but it's a shame if people stop bothering to get in touch at all.

I've posted about 30 and dropped off a couple more. I will keep on doing them, I spend a lot at Christmas anyway, £50 for cards and postage is a lot but it's one of the bits of Christmas I like.

Oh just remembered 2 I haven't done!

And have had about 8 so far. One actually included brilliant handwritten honest family news, I'm so chuffed😊

I've posted 15, have another 10 to hand deliver to friends locally, and then have 4 to give to family at the weekend.
We've had around a dozen so far, I think it's quite nice so try to remember to post them in time.

I have only done them for dd nursery friends so far. I will write a small amount for older family members who still do cards. However no one else seems to do them now apart from older family. My 14 year old and her friends don't do cards at all.

61, 30+ posted, a dozen more gone via local Scouts Christmas local delivery at 25p each (bargainous compared with post office Smile.
So far received about 10, but hoping for a late flurry.
I can understand people who have little to spend not doing cards because of the postage costs though, but like receiving them, and they do look nice and make easy Christmas decorations.

Posted about 20, got some more to give to neighbours, work colleagues etc by hand.

Had about 10 so far. It is a bit of a faff but like the tradition esp for friends you don't see as much as you would like and older people who are not on Facebook etc..

I've done 32 for DS's classmates and teacher cos he's in reception and it seems the done thing, 2 for nursery teachers and about half a dozen to return to people we've received from. All hand delivered If I had my way I wouldn't write any and I'm not going to spend money posting any at all.

30 altogether, but only as they were left over from 2013. I didn't send any last year and doubt I will in future.

I've written around 40 and received 20 or so. I've posted 13 this year. I've managed to cut down on how many go via Royal Mail as it was getting ridiculously expensive - even this year with 12 cards and a small package (with a card included) I spent just a few pence under £10 in the Post Office.

Report
wonkylegs · 16/12/2015 14:02

We sent about 20 by post another 25 hand delivered + DSs whole class.
We've got 15 to the family plus DSs has them from the whole class.
Less than last year
