I need some ideas please,

I'm having a get together at mine on Boxing Day, it'll be me, DH, our children (11, 9 and 5), my dad and his girlfriend (I've met her a couple of times but it'll be the first time she's been to our place), my brother and his girlfriend (I've met her a few more times but it'll only be the second time I've hosted her!)

I need some ideas for entertainment, last time I attempted it we were all bored out of our minds (the others were polite enough not to say anything)

I think we'll need to have an outdoors activity, a walk or something similar, and food - lunch and tea (buffet for one meal but what for the other?), maybe a board game or two?

What do you do in your family that goes down well and doesn't require too much organisation (I'm working right up until Christmas Eve evening)

I'm not a natural hostess!

Walk with pub lunch would get you out of the house and save you cooking one meal!

Board games are a good idea, provided they don't go on too long and cause disagreements (Monopoly, I'm looking at you). Could be an excuse to drag out some old family favourites you used to play with your Dad and brother.

The family version of Trivial pursuits is good because there are questions for both adults and children.

What about a few family movies? Maybe some retro ones that might appeal to the oldies?

We each have to come up with an activity! We are together for 3 days but everyone comes up with an hour or so of entertainment. Then no one is responsible for all the fun and everyone joins in each game because they want to make sure everyone joins in on theirs.
In the past I have arranged gingerbread house decorating, name the chocolate (bags if squares and you have to identify the brand from a list of 5), family quizzes or quizzes of the year's occasions. My husband is a physics teacher so we often do some kitchen science (google able) and one year my dad brought napkin folding!!! That was quite addictive!!
