Help me find DP a comic/retro geeky gift please!

If you are a comic buff and can give me some ideas it would be much appreciated. Otherwise if you know of a knowledgable comic shop or supplier who can advise me please can you post a link.

DP is brilliant at buying thoughtful gifts and I'm really struggling with some fun things for him. He doesn't need anything, as he tends to buy things he likes as he sees them, so I want to get something special that he would never think of buying for himself.

As inspiration, things he loves are 1980/90s video games such as Streetfighter, Legend of Zelda, Mario/Samus etc He also loves Marvel/DC superheroes.

I know there are lots of Marvel themed gifts around in the shops, but I'm looking for something unusual and a bit special, perhaps a specific comic or something collectable?

He doesn't do smart, so cuff links etc are out and he very rarely wears things with patterns/pics so clothes are out too!

Thanks dancing. I've looked on both of those for some ideas. Also had a brainwave to search for a comic from the month he was born, as I released that I wouldn't know a 'significant' edition, but can find one that is relevant to him.

Ooh, that sounds cool but maybe a little high brow for my DP. Although saying that, he loves rolling out a bit of his GCSE German so I might look for a German one

If known he has a favourite artist and you have a blank wall to fill ,you could look for a comic art portfolio,a set of prints A3 size often unused cover sketches - so they do vary in quality and some prices are silly if it has a signature.
As Street fighter is kung fu related,so i was hoping to find that Earl Norem had put out a cheap portfolio of his Deadly Hands of Kung Fu covers from the 1970's,but google have been no help.
Also some marvel dc comics were translated by the french/italian/germans for their own country often with a new cover,but again i would not know where to start looking,other than ebay,as no one seems to have catalogued this area yet. ( see picture )

Pop vinyls are very popular and come in lots of comic book characters. Try etsy for artwork as you can buy amazing prints for very little (just make sure to search in uk as you're probably a bit late for overseas) I don't know if he has any consoles, but you can use gameboy advance games (a bit older) in the ds's if they have the correct slot, so maybe an old LoZ game he doesn't have if he has a ds.

There was also a cheap "console" in Argos for sale. Lots of old games on it (preloaded)

To echo a PP lootcrate is awesome. An alternative to lootcrate is nerdblock.

Both are monthly boxes with geeky stuff in it. Some limited edition and exclusive stuff too.

Nerdblock launched a new box a while back called comicblock. Def worth looking in to and they are reasonably priced.

Ok comics I can certainly help but can you be more specific on the sorts of comics he reads? Does he have a favourite e.g batman, Harley, iron man etc? Does he collect variant covers? Or if you mean he.likes the characters but doesn't read the comics I can easily advise you on what merchandise are the big hits among fans. Pm if you prefer :)

I got my OH this for our wedding. He adored it. Its a framed comic book cover drawn with his face as the superhero and customised title and date and price etc.

I go them to put the date as put wedding and the price as his birthday etc.

Everyone should have the Sandman graphic novels, by Neil Gaiman. There are about 10 in total.

Other must-have graphic novels are:
Maus by Art Speigleman
Watchmen by Alan Moore (buy him the movie DVD at the same time!)

DC superhero (Batman & Superman) graphic novels which are classics are:
'The Dark Knight Returns' by Frank Miller
'The Dark Knight Strikes Again' by Frank Miller
