Christmas

what do you do with your Christmas cards?

Just that really!

I hate them cluttered all over the side boards and falling down. We've got a lot more this year because dc has started school.

I don't really want to pin things into the walls.

Where do you put your Christmas cards? [santa]

I look at them with hatred every morning when I come downstairs, the dust holding, messy, falling down pains in my arse. Happy Christmas!

Actually, I bought one of those metal holder things in the shape of a Christmas tree in the sale last year. That should hold them all in one place.

I have a couple of sparkly threads with mini pegs which I attach to the back of pictures we have hanging up our stairs and the cards go on there. They look like Christmassy pieces of washing hanging from their pegs!

These are similar -

I bought some tiny silver pegs and I peg them to hanging ribbon or tinsel. They hang down in front of a glass front bookcase we have.

www.amazon.co.uk/Christmas-Card-Hang-Ups-Displays/dp/B002YNJAFW?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 - I usually use a metal over the door card hanger thing in the shape of a Christmas tree but this year I have bought these hang up strips from B&Q instead

I blu tac mine to the back of our lounge door. Keeps them out of the way!

I'm going to get a card holder thing I think, it seems a shame to chuck them out. Some of them have some lovely festive designs.

It never occurred to me that I didn't have to have them in the living room! The stairs is a genius idea, I'm even willing to splash out on some silver pegs!

I'm having the same problem. Just moved into a new rental so can't pin anything to doors / walls / frames as previously.

What would you recommend? Would the hang up strips leave a mark?

I have lengths of ribbon dangling down from the spindles in the bannister (so hanging down into hallway), then peg cards to them

I hate it when you walk past them and they fall over, so I got my DH to make me a Christmas card holder from a pallet all the cards are being stuck on there .

what do you do with your Christmas cards?

I live in an old cottage with beams so I string them along there.
In a previous house I hung them down the stair spindles

Staple them to vertical lengths of ribbon drawing pinned to the picture rail or tie a strip of ribbon from one picture to another and hang them over it.
Usually leave some on the mantelpiece but get very cross every time they blow over.

I blue tack the first 15 or so along the stairs (underneath the bannister but) and the rest go in the bin. I bloody hate them. Ultimate clutter!
The dds put some up in the front room if they are bothered (but we never go in there so it's fine), although they tend to leave them in their bags until January.

Straight in the recycling. I think greetings cards are utterly pointless.

Bin. They are a waste of resources.

Free standing wire loop Christmas tree on the mantelpiece, holds about 100 in the space that you could stand 3 up in normally and no blowing over when the front door opens.

I love Christmas I just don't like cards. How is displaying dozens and dozens of card everywhere even though you dislike the sight of them and are irritated by them make you a more joyful person?

Report
SixtyFootDoll · 10/12/2015 18:39

I open, read, put straight into the recycling bin.
Can't stand loads of cards around.

Some fab ideas - thank you!

I too hadn't considered putting them down the stairs, brilliant!

Thank you
