I want inspiration!

We always make the same things;

Xmas pud (made)
Xmas cake (made)
Stained glass window biscuits for the tree
Gingerbread men
Gingerbread house (I cheat and buy the kit from Lidl)
Mince pies

This year I want to make more with the children, including cookies for Fc but I need to find a recipe first.

I will also make sausage roll to freeze, red cabbage, cranberry sauce and stuffing.

What are you making? What do you always make?

There's nothing I 'always make', because I'm not much of a baker - but this year I've done a Christmas cake, ad plan on some cranberry muffins, as they were a success last year. I was going to do gingerbread tree decos, but we now have 2 dogs coming for the day, and I don't want to put temptation right in their faces!

I don't make much. I've made filling for a few apple crumbles and frozen it. We decorate ginger bread men. Sometimes make chocolate bark. My uncle makes lovely stuffing for the full family aswell as pickles which is nice.

Everything else is pretty much part of the chrustmas shop!

FabFlo my DC make these for Santa (and themselves). We make them fairly regularly throughout the year, they're super easy and always come out v tasty. Not especially festive but my DC insist on them. I also love Nigella's Rocky Road.

Actually that's not the recipe! Sorry! I use one out of the BBC Good Food cook book, just assumed they'd be the same. This is ours:

100g softened butter
100g light muscovado sugar (I've also used caster and noticed no difference)
1 tbsp golden syrup
150g s.r. flour
3 tubes of smarties (I'd recommend getting 4 as 1 will probably disappear in the process!)

Pre-heat oven to 180/160 fan/gas 4
Best sugar and butter then beat in syrup
Work in half the flour, stir in the smarties, add rest of flour and use finders to bring dough together.
Divide into walnut sized balls (obvs can do bigger or smaller depending on preference)
Place well apart on baking sheet (don't flatten them)
Bake for 12 mins until pale golden at the edges. Cool on a wire rack. Makes about 14 and they allegedly keep for 4 days (never made it that long in my house!)

My Dd2 ( 8 years old) has asked Santa for an item I can't get easily - she's a true believer! Help?

She's asks for the Snow White set of tsum tsums. The full set is unavailable in the Disney store uk, Clintons sell 3 of the dwarfs and Ebay has them for reasonable price but wouldn't arrive till after Christmas. She firmly believes Santa can get them easily! How do I try and persuade her on another lot of tsum tsums?!?

70 if you check back on this thread please could you post your cheesecake recipe? Marmalade that cookie recipe looks great, will have to try. So far I have only made christmas cake x2 and some rather disappointing peanut butter brownies. Will be making individual chocolate mousses and mini meringues for a pre-christmas drinks night and would like other recipes for petite fours size deserts if anyone has any ideas?

I'm cheating a bit this year (buying chutneys, cranberry sauce), but will be making:

Mince pies
Sausage rolls (very garlicky!)
Chocolate shortbread (kids insist on it, was mum mums recipe, essentially its smashed up choc digestives in melted butter, cocoa and golden syrup, with some halved glacé cherries chucked in, dusted with icing sugar, very rich. Anyone wants the recipe proper let me know, they're super yummy)
Christmas cake (made)
Christmas pudding (dried fruit soaking in sherry now, making this weekend)
Poss peanut butter and choc cups (in truffle cases, nomnomnom)

Ginger glazed gammon

Xmas eve
Bourbon glazed sticky ribs, and potato skins with cheese & bacon melt

Main event
Starter (not sure what yet, on here looking for inspiration)
Main:
Turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets
Honey glazed carrots
Roasties, spuds and parsnips
Cauli & Broccoli with cheese sauce
Red cabbage and apple
Sprouts with bacon and walnuts
Peas and sweet corn (ds1 is obsessed with them)
Home made bread sauce
Pud:
Traditional Xmas pud with brandy butter/brandy sauce/custard (dd1 wants the latter
Cheeseboard

Cheese fondue sometime after Xmas - poss for NYE?

Lovely thread, getting excited now!! Grin
