Oh god I cannot believe I cant remember how this works. How freaking embarrassing lol

Do we open window marked 1 for Dec 1st or 24 for 24 sleeps to go kind of count down??

Bloody hell anyone would like I've not done 40 Christmas' before lol

Thanks ninja --you should totally change your name to christmas ninja-- its not that I don't believe you or anything but another few votes would be grand --before I have to tell the kids Mummy's make mistakes too, lets have a hot chocolate and move on from it together--

Haha! 1 today!

Though I suppose there's no reason why you couldn't do it in reverse!

MirandaWest Tue 01-Dec-15 14:24:09

Definitely 1 smile

Ah grand. Rightio. Good life lesson for everyone then huh --wont mention the part where DS got it right and I made him put it back lol--

Fark DH is going to dine out on this for weeks!

Ha ha! I had this row (well not a row we were having a joke) with my SIL yesterday - she asked what you did but she said that it makes more sense to open 24 today then it's "24 days till Christmas, 23, 22 and so on". I told her straight - you open 1 on the 1st, 2 on the 2nd and that's that! fgrin

When my sister was a toddler she opened all the doors on her advent calendar in November, then stuck them back down with butter. Perhaps that genius move is an option for you?!

ChippyMinton Tue 01-Dec-15 14:29:04

I have had a similar brain freeze just now with our countdown calendar - do I set it to 25 days until Christmas or 24 days until Christmas? Gah!

Costacoffeeplease Tue 01-Dec-15 14:29:59

Ha ha - hilarious - yes it's number 1 on the 1st

As I am really old (50) I remember when advent calendars just had pictures, and no 24 was always a double window with a lovely nativity scene grin

InQuiteAChristmasPickle Tue 01-Dec-15 14:31:56

I remember those too Costa and I'm 32. I remember having one with chocolate and one with just pictures and the picture one was really lovely and glittery.

ChristmasZombie Tue 01-Dec-15 14:34:27

I'm 30 and I definitely remember picture advent calendars. They are insanely expensive these days

Costacoffeeplease Tue 01-Dec-15 14:35:28

Are they? Gosh! I don't have kids so we don't have advent calendars (plus I'm not in the U.K.)

ChristmasZombie Tue 01-Dec-15 14:48:02

Yeah, you can get a chocolate one for £1, but traditional picture calendars can be £5+

wyldstile Tue 01-Dec-15 14:49:38

They certainly are. 99p or cheaper for 25 chocolates, or a fiver at least for 24 pictures. And because when I was little, I had pictures and that double door on 24, that's what my kids get. And it hurts me to pay more for less, but until they rebel, that's what they've got. So far they are happy. smile (plus their birthday is on the 24th, so they think it's also a countdown to that!)

wyldstile Tue 01-Dec-15 14:49:57

X post!

Costacoffeeplease Tue 01-Dec-15 14:51:16

Wish I'd kept them all I could have flogged them on eBay as genuine vintage grin
