DS(nearly 3) Christmas List...

DS has asked for a Christmas Tree and a Homer (Simpson) toy for Christmas. He did flirt with the idea of a mango but then laughed for a long while and said no that's silly 'cos Christmas is for toys...

Question is what toys? He's getting a basic tablet off me and maybe an indoor trampoline and thinking the Toy Story toys off my mum although she wants to do the 'big' present and GGran wants to get him a big present too, around £50 mark.

He is 2.9 we have no garden and minimal space. He has a kitchen, a train set, a car, a rocking horse harley, has all the homewear stuff (hoover/pram/shopping cart/cleaning set), a scooter, a trike, drumkit/musical instruments in general, ball pit and tent

He's been a very spoilt little boy in the past so I've run out of ideas. His other GGran is getting him a pen reader thing from leapfrog and he'll get lots of flashing plastic things off DHs family. I've suggested a year pass for soft play and the like and suggested they hold on to their money til he wants or need something but they all want to see him open 'their' gift grrrrr.

I was suggesting a library of bing, thomas or peppa books but then his GUncle found a full set of Thomas and Friends at a boot sale and brought them round recently...

My almost 2 year old grandson is currently into jigsaw puzzles and anything to do with trains. Also Happyland items go down very well.

DD will be just 3. In the last year (Christmas and birthday from us and relatives), she has already had a train set, play kitchen, an outdoor playhouse, trike, sand and water table and coupe car (which together take up most of the space in our tiny garden!) Also she already has lots of figures, blocks, some happyland and Duplo, sticklebricks, toy buggy etc., many passed on from older cousins.

This Christmas we are going for lots of inexpensive presents rather than one or two larger ones (apart from her present from Father Christmas, who is bringing a scooter). So her presents from us will be things like some play dough, a corduroy soft toy dog from Tiger, some books, a tutu and magic wand, sleigh bells, tambourine and maracas - all of them were really cheap at about £3-4 pounds each for the most part (I've been collecting things in the sales throughout the year in ELC, Mothercare etc.)

We still need to ask parents what they are going to get - I think my mum and dad may get her an easel; we may ask DH's mum to get a dolls' house.

Her birthday is also near Christmas but we don't tend to do expensive gifts for birthdays - this year I think we may get the Ikea play tent and maybe a bit more Duplo. Though I also like the look of the Happyland rocket. We will probably ask grandparents to give her some money and only a small/token gift for her birthday, or to help us out with the cost of a party.

If you have the space a play table would be fab, think they are sold as being for brio train sets but we use to set up the happy land stuff on it as well, then later they used it for lego. Thomas take and play is good ds still plays with his at nearly 6.

What about Duplo? My son got several sets for Xmas when he was 2yr9mo and still enjoys them now at 4.5!

That's good to know snappybadger as I have been doubtful over whether it's worth investing in more duplo for my just-3-yr-old.

For a big pressie, a bike is always going to be a winner.

For DS's stocking I get smaller stuff: probably a kinder egg as he's obsessed with those, some character socks/pjs, a game or jigsaw, a book, something battery operated and noisy. I've got a big box of craft stuff to wrap up too. DH & I get a few bits each.

He's not much of a 'player' is the problem. Has loads of blocks and plays with them occasionally. Mainly plays with toy vehicles or big stuff. His 'things' are running, climbing, ball games, wrestling, dancing and singing songs he knows or has made up

We've got DS (almost the same age) a ELC rocket, a little cheap stereo and 2 CDs, PJs, books and a christmas jigsaw as well as some things which are going to send me round the twist for his stocking (a little trumpet being one of them - what was I thinking! )

We found adding a new piece to some of the sets we already had made the whole thing seem new and exciting again.

I like the bigjigs wooden train set accessories, when they were smaller the tunnels and bridges seemed to get most use. As they got older points and crossings we much loved.

Ds favorite for ages was a battery powered toy drill, just like daddies

The little tykes basket ball hoop was used a lot too, and didn't take up too much space in the garden, we did loose a fair number of balls over the fence though.

Duplo was much loved here, mine are now 9 & 11 and still play with it for ages when I get it out.

I would say a mini micro scooter, my 2yo loves hers. Otherwise happyland is great, as is duplo, wooden train set and an assortment of musical instruments.
