Advice on Disney infinity please

curriegirl · 15/11/2015 09:09

I bought Lego dimensions but DS really wants infinity so dimensions is to go back.

I am confused with the versions. DS really loves superheroes so ironman etc. I can see starter packs with the characters in it that he would like plus some extra standalone characters. Some are infinity 2.0 and some are 3.0. Are they compatible with each other? This is for a PS3 idiot makes any difference.

We've bought the Star Wars V3 for Christmas PS4 but have never played it before. From what I can gather from searching some forums etc all versions are compatible forwards but not backwards - so you can use V1, 2 and 3 on V3 but you can't use V3 figures with V2

RockySpeed · 15/11/2015 10:13

Also you can only use the relevant figures in the game - so only Star Wars figures in the Star Wars game BUT there's another mode called Toybox where you can use all figures to play

Hope that makes a bit of sense! Smile

At the moment version 3 is the new one out.

Everythingis backwards compatible but not forwards. So Characters from one, two and three will work in three, charcaters from 3 won't work in two and characters from 23 and three won't work in one. The same for mission and power disks packs.

There are two sides to the game.

Firstly There are missions (like the clear model in the center of the star wars packs) you can only play them with the relevant characters. So marvel missions need iron man, thor, black widow etc. Occasionally you can unlock crossovers in games. The missions really are the smallest part of the game, but the mission that comes in you starter pack are probably the bit you will spend most time on first.

Secondly there is the toy box. The toy box is vast and i can pretty much garentee you will never reach the end of it! Allowing for compatibility, you can play whatever characters you want and you can build your own levels, they can be as simple as plonking a few enemies down and fighting them to a fully themed level with games and logic links that you link yourself. Great way of looking at basic programming and game design

Then you can also download levels other online players have created or upload levels you have made for others to play. There is a fantastic you tube channel run by disney that sets build a level challenges and then shows off the best.(basically a great way of finding good user generated content.

Power disks sit under your character and change something. It might be the characters outfit, the sky and scenery, at tech, mode of transport.

Cheers. So seems toy box and is the one to look at.

Usually in a starter box you get the toy box a couple of characters and their related missions.

After that they come either in individual characters or in a two pack with the related mission peice (or occasionally mission discs). So for example guardians of the galaxy levels come with with star Lord and the green lady whose name I forget.

Not everything is unlocked in the toy box straight away. You collect sparks (either in the missions or in the toy box) to unlock bits eg scenery games terrain games etc

With disney 3.0 There is also the toybox takeover add on (which I haven't yet got to grips with) and the speedway (which looks fantastic). Disney 3.0 for us arrives at Christmas [santa]

It is worth encouraging your child to do the toybox tutorials and watching a few of the great toy box tutorials on you tube. The scope if the games is just incredible.

If you buy a starter kit it comes with a mission anyway.

You can chose to buy more kits with missions - playsets.

Toybox comes as standard with the software.

Wiki explains about Playset Mode and Toybox Mode.

Playset is more like traditional platform game and Toybox is more building and creating your own.

Ds2 is getting a ps4 for xmas and wanted the marvel version as he isn't into Starwars.

I think I understand it now but please do correct me if I'm wrong!

He has the 2.0 starter pack, Spiderman and Avenders playset.

Have got extra figures of Hulk and Green Goblin.

Am I correct in thinking that the figures in each of the packs/ play set will work in the starter game and the playset?

As much as that kit will work and is fantastic, if your DC like it you will end up getting disney 3.0 eventually as well

I've bought the DC a WiiU for Christmas and they're both heavily into Star Wars but I'm clueless about gaming so can someone tell me:

The Disney infinity 3.0 Star Wars starter pack - is that all I need to play other games as well? For example, the Inside Out play pack isn't a starter pack so could I just use the platform from the Star Wars pack to put the figures on? Or do I need to buy the game separately?

Same with the marvel ones, surely I don't need to buy another starter pack? Seems pointless to buy another platform but all I could see on the shelf was marvel individual figures...

(I did say I was clueless Blush)

Nope once you have the star wars starter pack everything will play on this. You do just plonk the characters on.

So if you then wanted to play the inside out missions you would just need the <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00YE16D1G/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1447868899&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=inside%20out%20disney%20infinity%203.0&dpPl=1&dpID=51zaqfvs60L&ref=plSrch&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">playset not a starter set. Same with marvel playset <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00M1JUEIQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_14?qid=1447869106&sr=8-14&pi=AC_SX110_SY165&keywords=marvel%20disney%20infinity%203.0&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">here

sigh....the inlaws (as per usual) think they know best so get different figures to the ones I emailed to them.

Can I just clarify:

Marvel starter pack comes with Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow
Spiderman Playset comes with: Nova and Spiderman
Guardians Playset comes with: Star Lord and Gamera

Hulk will play in the Guardians and Spiderman playsets plus the marvel starter pack.

Captain America will play in Spiderman playset and the Marvels Starter Pack

Have I got this all correct?

Report
Toffeelatteplease · 21/11/2015 12:03

Nearly

All the characters mentioned will work in the disney 2.0 toybox.

The missions (the playsets) will only work with their respective characters.
You can collect tokens in game that allow certain characters to crossover
Avengers: nova and rocket rocoon
Spiderman: Hulk, iron man
Guardians of the galaxy: Nick Fury, iron man
Hulk won't play the guardians missions and captain America will only playAvengers

Or so the kids tell me

Report
Toffeelatteplease · 21/11/2015 12:06

Nova crosses over to guardians not nick

So theoretically iron man and nova can eventually play in all three

Oh god this is so confusing! Basically my DS loves superheroes. Can someone link me what I need to buy. Seems it all needs to be 2.0 as 3.0 is star wars based?

We are going to get him the starter kit but a cousin wants to get him extra figures so if anyone can help I'd be really grateful! Thanks.

I am going to disagree ever so slightly, I own all 3 and both myself, DP and DD2 (6) and ds (5) love the game, we only now play 3.0. Because it has the new toy box Hub, with loads of mini games and challenges and bits to explore. The younger two only really play on the hub and on downloaded toy boxes other gamers have created, and ones we created as well. DP and I work through the level packs, so for 3.0 it's inside out, two starwars ones and loads of superhero ones.

It doesn't matter what figures you buy to add on if you have 3.0 as you can use them in the toy box etc.
We love this game, which ironically I actually only bought in the first place because it was discounted on amazons black Friday deals last year! That was 1.0, but 2.0 and 3.0 were purchased pretty soon after.

Lego dimensions is equally fab but you genuinely need all the damn characters to full complete each bit, and that would cost a fortune. I almost wish we hadn't bothered getting into lego dimensions as it's so frustrating not being able to get that last gold block because it requires yet another character. The children don't like lego anywhere near as much as disney infinity.

Thanks toasty. So just so I am right if I buy 3.0 starter set I can buy 2.0 figures and they will work?

Toffeelatteplease · 23/11/2015 23:44

Yes if it is an option buy 3.0. Definitely agree with toasty

If the kids like it( and they will) the saving you make on buying 2.0 will seem like a waste because you will want to upgrade it anyway!!

Personally I don't mind upgrading. I still think we have had fantastic value for money out of each one. And there is usually just a much cheaper upgrade disk

All the figures work on 3.0

we have got the 3.0 for the kids for Christmas, but we also have the 1.0 and 2.0, as we already have 2 pads from the 1.0 and 2.0 for the 3.0 we just brought the 3.0 game only software disc (as we did not need the pad. The only thing is if you buy the 3.0 and you buy playsets from 1.0 and 2,0 you cannot play in play set mode only in toybox mode...

I've googled this but haven't been able to find a straight answer.....I have Disney infinity 1.0 for the Wii. Will the base work with Disney infinity 3.0 for an Xbox 360, or will I have to buy a starter pack (ie with a new base) for Disney 3.0 for Xbox 360?

Gawd, when did it all get so complicated?!
