Hoping I can call upon the collective expertise on the MN Xmas shoppers.
DH would like a leather satchel for Xmas - big enough for his 17 inch laptop.
That's fine.
Except is has to be reasonably smart looking, black or brown, look like a satchel but have magnetic fasteners under the buckles as he can't be arsed unbuckling it all the time but likes the look of buckles..Oh, and he'd prefer leather and can it have a handle but also a shoulder strap?
Max budget £150. I have found the one below but wonder if I could do better?

Help, please!
TIA

If only you could blow your budget! That probably doesn't help, but it might give you some inspiration! www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/the-large-shadow-messenger-in-brown-nubuck

Any good? Says it fits 17" laptop, admittedly a little over your budget though...

I'd say, "That sounds great! Let me know which one you want."

Ememem84 Tue 10-Nov-15 22:46:04

Have a look at carve on.

They hand make leather stuff. And are pretty good. I got dh a notebook cover for his birthday. It's lovely v

Lily,
The Aspinall one is bloody gorgeous. If it was for me we still couldn't afford it but I'd feel better about having it than spending £450 on DH grin
Noeuf and Fresh, nice satchels but they have buckles and he wants the LOOK of buckles but with the convenience of magnetic poppers underneath cos he's a picky sod.
Imperial, I like the cut of your jib but it is becoming a point of principle that I find something to brief.
I am going to ask the b'stard for a handbag sized live unicorn to see how he likes that assignment.....grin

Noeuf Tue 10-Nov-15 22:56:52

Spub, I think in the options you can get magnetic ones - I have several with 'pretend' buckles

This is the page - shorter straps, magnetic buckles, personalisation etc.

Noeuf,Will take another look. Thanks!

Ememem, Those are lovely, thanks but I need the combo of handle, shoulder strap and fake buckles.....

Davros Tue 10-Nov-15 23:18:54

Cambridge satchel company?

spub Wed 11-Nov-15 08:14:10

Davros, thank you. Will look.
He's so picky!!
Any other ideas? hmm

The Dr Martens bags are nice looking (and would last) but no idea if they have metal fasteners underneath.

Do you have an Osprey outlet near you? They had some beauties at around £150.

From Neouf's suggestion: shoulder strap and magnetic catches with the look of buckles as standard for GBP140. Add a handle on the top as an option GBP148. Just in budget.

I hope that you end up with one that is just right!

However, please please can you get him one of these cartoon style satchels to open first, just so you can watch his face as he opens it fgrin

(I just linked to the first one I came to on ebay - there are loads more if you have a quick look, including cheaper ones)

Does anything from Conkca fit the bill? I have one of their handbags and they're super quality.

SoySauceAddict Wed 11-Nov-15 14:37:38

TkMaxx? They had lovely ones last Christmas time.

peggyundercrackers Wed 11-Nov-15 14:52:17

What about this one? Chestnut brown, magnetic fasteners, handle on the top and 17.5 inches wide: www.zatchels.com/sale/up-to-50-off/chestnut-satchel-backpack-straps.html

Thank you all! Not had chance to look properly yet as at work ( how inconvenient) but I luffs you all.
Will report back later. Lol at cartoon bag. Am gonna get one! ( then make him give it to dd, 13) fgrin

bookbook Wed 11-Nov-15 16:13:45

I think mine might be a bit girly..smile

spub Wed 11-Nov-15 20:22:36

Sweary the concka baker is lovely; just missing the handle that DH requires wink

The Scaramanga bags are gorgeous but don't have the magnetic clips under the buckles....

The Zatchel bags are also fab but he took a quick look and said they were nice but a bit to "schooly" - ditto the Cambridge satchel company one and sadly, cos I love Dr Martens - those too - plus they have actual buckles.

The Osprey bags are also lush but a tad too pricey smile

The M&S one is maybe a wee bit girly, thanks and sorry!

The Debenhams ones aren't quite right but I will look further on the site.

Very grateful for the help and sorry if I sound like an ungrateful cow - this is not me speaking but feckwit DH. Thank you all and any other suggestions hugely welcome.

ooh, and I absolutely did buy the carton style bag! Thank you, ZipZap
that will be an enjoyable prank after all of this fannying about on his behalf!
