Alternatives to the Amazon wish list?

DC have had wish lists on Amazon for years now, but obviously this encourages people to shop from Amazon. I've been meaning to move their lists somewhere else since I've been boycotting Amazon, but now that MIL has just paid £45 for a Lego set for DS on Amazon even though it's £32 everywhere else it's time to delete them.

Does anyone use anything else? I admit Amazon have cornered the market here but surely there are alternatives?

Does anyone use a Pinterest board for a wish list?

Watching with interest - am in the same boat. Amazon wishlists are just so damn easy for DCs/distant relatives etc but I want to move away from them.

Wordery.com has a wish list function for books but I can't set up separate lists for DC. Even though I've put the Wordery price in the comments on Amazon, people are still happy to pay more to not have to change sites.

Maybe I'll set the Amazon lists using the universal button only so nothing from actual Amazon on there. Not sure if I can do that with Windows 10 though.

Just write out the serial numbers or model numbers of sets then people can search themselves for the cheapest options....

Just because the list is on Amazon doesn't mean people have to buy direct from it. In fact, they shouldn't because then you can see what they've bought.
I search for the list and then buy the items wherever they're cheapest.

I know that it doesn't mean they have to buy from Amazon but unfortunately they still tend to even if it means spending £12 more because it's easier and they're lazy.

I've just been through all the lists and removed everything from Amazon and added the items from elsewhere using the Wishlist browser addon in Firefox. That will do for now.

In fact, they shouldn't because then you can see what they've bought.

You have to remove it from the list anyway otherwise someone else will buy it. There's an option to say you've purchased it from elsewhere and it doesn't take the purchased items off the list so you can't see what's been bought.

I have a Pinterest board for presents but it's not one I share. I really like it, but can't advise how well other people use it for my DC. Try it!

I use a (secret) Pinterest board just to tally ideas throughout the year (in reality from September), but this year have set up Amazon wish lists for both kids. Every year I've had to send ILs actual links to exact presents for the kids, this way it's all in one place for everyone (me included!), and it's up to them where they buy things.

Why not use the Add To Wish List button to add things from other websites to their Amazon wishlists? Then when people click on the item the link takes them to the website you added it from, i.e. somewhere other than Amazon. I have Amazon wishlists for both kids, myself, household stuff, all sorts, but other than books barely anything on any of them is from Amazon itself.

We've been using whattogive.com for years now. It allows links to particular shops but can also be used just as a list of hoped-for items/ideas. It's been handy in terms of the wider family being able to get ideas and/or to select things and have them removed from the list so there are no duplicates.

For me it definitely has to be Things To Get Me, //www.thingstogetme.com

The website is very easy to use, and completely independent, plus they have an app and browser extension.

Your guests can tick things off to indicate they'll get them, and everyone else can see the items are "taken", they even have gift-funds to collect cash.

It looks like some others mentioned above either dead or really outdated, so Things To Get Me is definitely worth a look.

We use Giftwhale for our wish lists - Worked well for the new arrival. And have used it to our DD for each birthday

Another vote for thingstogetme we've been using it for a while now and find it easy to use and share.

We use What to Give. You can copy and paste specific links or just write general ideas if you don't want to be prescriptive. We used it for our wedding list nearly 14 years ago and came back to it when we had kids. Works well.
